Master plumber provides direction to Journeyman and Apprentice plumbers, provides
adequate services to ensure that all water supply networks, waste and drainage
systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes
and safety. Master plumber is able to pull plumbing permits with town and state
municipalities.
Responsibilities for this position include:
•Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures for gas, water, and sanitary
lines - for storm drains, toilets, sinks, boilers, heat exchangers valves, pumps, drinking
fountains, water stills, hot water heaters
•Perform plumbing and general building maintenance services
•Perform backflow testing for irrigation systems
•Will make suggestions to customers on additional plumbing and maintenance needs
•Maintain the license(s) required by the state of Maine for Master Plumber's.
•Remain in compliance with any and all applicable state and local statutes and
ordinances.
•Accountable for all services provided by a Journeyman or Apprentice Plumber under
your supervision.
•Meet with regulatory board members and / or licensing authorities as requiredLocate and
mark pipes and connection positions and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob
•Use hand and power tools to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and
pipe fittings
•Use pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe-threading machine to cut and thread pipes
•Use pipe bending machine to bend pipe to required angles
•Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made from metals or non-metals
•Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints
•Fill pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to ensure system is not
leaking
•Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and opening
clogged drains
•May perform welding
•Carry out regular maintenance of plumbing systems at commercial and residential sites
•Perform installation of plumbing systems at new properties
•Inspect previously installed plumbing systems at commercial and residential sites
•Perform any necessary repairs to previously installed systems
•Answer calls for plumbing issues from general contractors
•Keep up to date with current safety regulations and requirements for the various
plumbing systems a company installs and maintains and perform routine inspections
Licensing, Certification & Education Requirements
•State of Maine mandated license - Master Plumber License
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship & journeyman or another type of formal
plumbing training
•Valid driver's license
•Must have or be able to obtain OSHA 10 hour or 30 hour certification
•Ability to use a wide variety of plumbing tools and techniques
•All state and federal-mandated licenses required to practice
•Willingness to respond to emergency plumbing situations at odd hours
