Summary:

The Master Electrician performs electrical installation/replacement throughout the hospital.Performs high level electrical skills for all non-clinical electrical equipment. Works with the maintenance team for general maintenance duties for operations and general upkeep of the facilities.

Position requires coordination and performance of work assignments and activities of general maintenance.Must be able to schedule maintenance, construction, and repair activities for buildings, grounds, and utilities in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.Must be able to function in a work environment that requires bending, squatting, stooping, prolonged standing and walking.Also required is the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.May be exposed to hazards from the use of electrical, mechanical and power equipment, toxic chemicals, and gases.Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Facilities Manager for which qualified.

Responsibilities:

Regularly inspects buildings and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations.

Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated.When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.

Attends meetings and in-service programs as required.Participates on committees as requested and serves as a consultant to other departments.

Assists in preparation of annual capital and expense budges, maintains cost controls, performs maintenance and completion of accurate records of time changes.

Assists in the development of an annual capital facilities project list.

Implements cost-effective measures for department operations.

Makes appropriate recommendations to facilities manager regarding department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.

Assures that all circuits are properly protected and all motors have appropriate starting circuits to absorb initial starting surge.

Maintains the receptacles and power switching devices in good working order.

Checks to see that all ground faults circuits are working properly and that all major circuit breakers are exercised on a periodic basis.

Assures that all circuit control panels are properly marked and correspond with the circuits they control.

Maintains outside lighting circuits and outside services receptacles installed for special purpose.

Replaces faulty switches, plugs, and other parts of electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, communication systems, medical equipment, and HVAC system.

Isolates defects such as faulty controls, motors, and wiring in systems and equipment.

Must be knowledgeable in emergency and high voltage systems.

Must be able to keep good records and be proficient in preventive maintenance techniques for all hospital electrical systems.

Adheres to applicable infection control and safety policies at all times.

Capable of installing new equipment.

Must be able to perform Lock Out/Tag Out on equipment.

Reports inventory usage and needs to the manager as needed. Helps manager access inventory needed to complete a project or task.

Operates various electrical equipment including power and lighting circuits, alarm systems, card access systems, emergency generator and circuits, various medical equipment, and electric motors.
