Job Summary:
The Master Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge, hands-on experience with various mechanical systems, and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards. This role is pivotal in ensuring vehicle reliability, customer satisfaction, and the long-term success of our service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and Repair: Conduct detailed diagnostics to identify mechanical and electrical issues, utilizing specialized tools and diagnostic equipment. Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, air conditioning, and other vehicle systems as needed.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other preventative measures to extend the life of vehicles and equipment.
- Inspection and Testing: Test vehicle systems and components to ensure proper functioning, efficiency, and compliance with safety standards.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide expertise in advanced troubleshooting and support for junior mechanics on complex repair tasks.
- Documentation: Accurately document repairs, inspections, and maintenance work in service records to maintain detailed and transparent records.
- Customer Communication: Explain complex mechanical issues and repair recommendations to customers in a clear, professional manner. Provide cost estimates and timelines for repairs.
- Training and Mentorship: Train and guide apprentices and junior mechanics to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in automotive repair, with expertise across multiple vehicle systems.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive repair is preferred.
- Certifications: ASE Master Technician certification is required (or equivalent certification in specific areas of expertise).
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills, with knowledge of various vehicle systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Primarily in a shop or garage setting, with occasional outdoor work.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Hours: Full-time position with possible overtime during peak periods.
