Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to assign and supervise personnel in the performance of their duties, and monitor and control behavior of all subordinate personnel. Responsible for supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else, and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Under the direction of the Director of Security and the Assistant Security Manager, see that the management and coordination of policies and procedures are carried out and followed through by delegating authority deemed necessary to the proper subordinates.
- Maintain a close liaison with the Manager regarding proper Officer staffing.
- Assist in the development of department policies, procedures, department manuals, preparation of the department budget, prepare proper personnel, report and submit the same, to Security Management as requested.
- Supervise special events and the activities of Officers in the execution of their duties.
- Conduct and/or supervise in-service training sessions and instruct personnel in proper work methods and techniques.
- Assign Security personnel to various beats, patrols, traffic and other functions as necessary.
- Assign duty schedules and issue orders in pursuance of the rules and regulations to be enforced.
- Ensure that the Officers are properly staffed at all guard posts.
- Be responsible for the enforcement of a rigid discipline, supervision of the work of all subordinates and the condition of the department.
- Coordinate all investigations through Security Management and any and all-outside agencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information received, and pass all information and report all activity to the Assistant Security Manager and Director of Security.
- Conduct investigations and submit reports as directed by the Director/Assistant Security Manager of Security.
- Assure that all paperwork for new hires in the department is filled out properly and turned in to Human Resources.
- Review office records and personnel to ensure that the policies and rules of Canterbury Park Holding Corporation (CPHC) and Management are carried out.
- Conduct surveys of Security and other matters of interest to Management as directed.
- Administer Security payroll records to ensure their accuracy and to assure officers are punching in and out.
- Ensure that all employee records, performance reviews and disciplinary write-ups are completed when needed.
- Review ICR’s after distributing them to assure report is adequate.
- Ensure the necessary reports relating to all incidents encountered are on proper forms in a neat and precise manner acceptable for outside distribution.
- Maintain complete and concise records of all dorm assignments.
- Take disciplinary action against all subordinates when warranted.
- Ensure that records are maintained of all Security equipment and vehicles, and initiate recommendations to the Assistant Security Manager for the purchase or the replacement of equipment as needed.
- Communicate, work and confer with officials of the Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC), Stewards, Racing Office, Racing Officials, State Vets and officials of other criminal justice agencies throughout the county, state and nation, for the purpose of accomplishing certain phases of the Security mission as assigned.
- Maintain track cleanliness as necessary.
- Assure that the fence line is regularly inspected for holes, and/or any indication that illegal entry is being gained, that property or animals are not being taken out, and that any damage is promptly reported and repaired.
- Maintain close supervision and communication with the Officers to ensure that all MRC matters are being initiated and follow-up investigations are being conducted.
- Responsible for all persons, animals and/or any activity within the Stable Area.
- Act as a liaison to, and maintain a good working relationship with: HBPA, MRC, Stewards, Racing Department, Stable Personnel, Law Enforcement Officials and agencies, and all others having business in the Stable Area.
- Investigate and interview any and all persons regarding Stable Area and MRC rules and regulations.
- Administer fire prevention programs and direct and supervise the activities of the Officers, and dispatch and direct firefighting crews when necessary.
- Initiate proper reporting and notification procedures in the event of a fire and search procedures in a bomb threat incident.
- Accept all other areas of responsibility as directed and/or assigned by the Director and Assistant Security Manager of Security.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
- All Security and EMS Personnel under his/her authority.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
- Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
- Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively and identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
- Must be a US Citizen per MRC rules
- Must be able to pass a medical examination per MRC rules
- Must be able to pass Canterbury Park’s pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, drug screening, and Canterbury Park’s Safe Driving Policy.
- Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Stable area and live racing experience.
