Counseling & Recovery Services of Oklahoma provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, physical health care management and wellness services for over 5,000 children and adults annually. We are Oklahoma's only community mental health center certified in the Sanctuary model of care. Using this model, the agency provides trauma-informed care helping to create an environment of safety, identify and manage emotions, process loss and help clients create a future of growth and change. Due to tremendous growth, we are hiring Life Skills Coaches at our YES Tulsa location. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate the ability to provide resident supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify strengths and needs of the youth.

- Demonstrate basic knowledge of disorders/diagnoses of childhood.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the developmental stages of childhood and family.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the effects of trauma, including child abuse and neglect as well as other types of trauma on the child and family (e.g. medical trauma, witnessing domestic abuse or violence, accidents, war, natural disaster, etc.)
- Demonstrating and understanding of disabilities, including the effects of disabilities on the child and the family, and community attitudes towards children with disabilities and their families.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage challenging behaviors and teach appropriate behavioral skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to observe, record and report health symptoms, behavior and activity of residents as related to their family and community culture, as well as be able to demonstrate the ability to observe and document symptoms as outlined in procedure.
- Ability to work well under pressure with efficiency and consistency while maintaining a balance between good physical and mental health and the job requirements.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors and teach appropriate behavioral skills.
- An understanding of sensitivity to and respect for family roles, culture, socioeconomic status, and value differences.
Example of Position Responsibilities:
- Observe, record and report health symptoms as well as the behavior and activity of residents, as evidenced by charting, escorting residents, assisting with activities of daily living and assisting residents to achieve their daily goal(s) through support and paraprofessional counseling techniques.
- Provide activities of daily living supervision.
- Take vitals of assigned residents.
- Intervenes in crisis situations, utilizing verbal intervention effectively and physical interventions as needed, articulating to the consumer the justification for use of limit setting, seclusion or restraint, as indicated by facility protocol, resident's crisis plan, treatment plan and physician's orders.
- Provide educational and life skill training during individual and group activities according to resident's crisis and treatment plans.
- Facilitate relaxation, leisure, and recreation activities as scheduled.
- Maintain close communication with rest of treatment team and keep others informed as appropriate or as instructed to do so.
- Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines for interactions regarding consumer information.
- Provide general housekeeping according to facility guidelines.
- Perform basic screening to determine whether COD might exist and be able to refer the consumer for a formal diagnostic assessment for co-occurring disorders.
- Have the skills to de-escalate consumers who are agitated, anxious, angry, or in other vulnerable emotional states.
- Use integrated models of assessment, intervention, and recovery for person having both substance-related and mental disorders.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Nurse, or clinician on duty.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to move from location to location, bending, stooping, lifting 25 pounds, communicate clearly, prepare written communications, present information to other employees, process complex information within established procedures/programs, enter data to various programs. Must be able to climb stairs and access non-handicapped equipped residences/facilities.
