Reports To: Engineering Manager

Reporting Shift: Monday-Friday, Flex Schedule during hours of 7:00am-5:00pm
Compensation: $93,000 - $110,000/Salary
Location: Ballston Spa, NY (In Office Position - Not Remote)

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for short- and long-term resolution of safety, growth, quality, productivity and reliability challenges in a manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer provides technical expertise to area operators and implements continuous process improvements, and reliable and consistent plant operations. The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and will work closely with operators, maintenance personnel, team leaders and managers, and will have a keen knowledge of manufacturing processes as well as engineering tools. Use of six sigma and lean methodology as well as good project organization is important for success. The position will also design new controls and equipment for both productivity gains and growth opportunities. The role will lead formal and informal programs as well as capital projects to drive improvement in manifesting.

Success will be measured by:

  • Project Management from design through implementation of effective automated and non-automated systems.
  • Projects delivered on time and within budget
  • Manufacturing processes and workflows improvement impacting Overall Equipment Effectiveness
  • Year over year reduction of Cost of Goods Sold
  • Problem-solving to reduce internal and external non-conformances
  • Collaboration with SSP team members, contractors, and suppliers.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Ensures manufacturing processes comply with regulatory requirements and SSP safety standards.
  • Evaluates and identifies areas for improvement such as uptime, yield and waste reduction.
  • Review and calculate labor, material and other costs and recommend improvements.
  • Investigate, implement new equipment or processes to implement cost reduction using automation.
  • Identify sources and vendors as needed for services, parts and equipment
  • Lead and assist root cause analysis and elimination of internal and external quality non-conformances.
  • Design and document tooling, fixtures, jigs and equipment by producing component and assembly drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Define and document clear specifications, procedures and work instructions for equipment and processes.
  • Provide production line support including, but not limited to, implementing process improvements, troubleshooting equipment, and addressing operator inquiries.
  • Establish and suggest equipment predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Train staff in new processes
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment layout requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • General engineering administrative tasks
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related
  • Project Management
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems
  • Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees and schedules simultaneously
