Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer leads and manages the specification, purchase, installation, and launch of new equipment for the manufacture of aluminum and iron castings for the automotive market. Experience with robots, programming and equipment integration is preferred. They will also lead the updates & modifications to manufacturing plants for the installation of new equipment, provide direction and engineering support for production, testing, and maintenance of an aluminum casting operation, support the shop floor, and resolve or coordinate the resolution of complex technical issues in the manufacturing process.
Job Description
* Develops manufacturing equipment Scope of Work, RFQs and purchase proposals by studying manufacturing plans and commitments, evaluating manufacturing processes and requirements.
* Recommends new manufacturing equipment by identifying vendors and operating equipment, including control devices; evaluating equipment capabilities and service history; evaluating vendor service and support.
* Completes equipment cost projections by analyzing investment, return, and savings.
* Monitors equipment installations by advising crews.
* Meets production requirements by designing equipment modifications.
* Prepares equipment operators by conducting training, providing reference and support resources.
* Maintains process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
* Maintains equipment records by filing documents, updating equipment database.
* Protects organization value by keeping information confidential, cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
* Contributes to engineering and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
* Travel 25-30%
* All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
* Minimum three years of work experience in automotive component manufacturing with a focus on new equipment purchase & installation.
* Engineering or Technical Degree
* Strong project management skills.
* Basic knowledge of die casting equipment & tooling, including the function of die components is a plus.
* Knowledge of process documentation (Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan)
* Strong Mechanical Proficiency
