Position Description
This position is part of the Manufacturing Engineering Department and is the technical lead responsible for assembly, test and calibration of a range of Coherent power and energy sensors manufactured at the site.
The site has an ISO 17025 accredited calibration lab that performs service & periodic calibration of customer's sensors.
The high-level goals for this position are to support manufacturing initiatives and improvements of manufacturing processes, looking for opportunities to reduce costs, improve yields and increase throughput whilst maintaining high quality levels.
The role also includes sustaining engineering responsibilities for overseas calibration labs.
Multi-disciplinary problem solving as well as data analysis are primary aspects of this position.
Job Responsibilities
* Support manufacturing initiatives and improvements of manufacturing processes
* Work on customer RMA events, providing robust containment and resolution and using an 8D report format
* Determine root cause and corrective actions to resolve manufacturing issues involving noncompliant product or material.
* Submit formal changes required for improvements or issue resolution, coordinating with other teams as needed
* Create and maintain detailed work instructions to support equipment operation and processes.
* Provide training to production staff on new or updated processes
* Assist forecasting capital equipment requirements in advance of need.
* Discuss technical issues with production techs & assemblers to help resolve issues or implement improvement actions
* Technical lead for overseas calibration & service labs in Europe & Asia
* Working with purchasing team and vendors on material issues or improvements and conducting first article assessments.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Manufacturing Engineering in a high-tech environment with the ability to manage multiple projects with accountability and ownership
* Strong background in metrology including Gage Studies and Measurement Uncertainty calculations. Hands-on experience with optical alignment, opto-mechanical assembly and test, including the use of optical and electrical photonics test & measurement equipment.
* Practical working knowledge of a variety of lasers, including setup, operation, troubleshooting and safety
* Practical working knowledge of a variety of optical sensor technologies
* Understanding of spectroscopy, including work with spectrometers and spectrophotometers. Structured problem solving and effective communication skills
* Ability to set up and use statistical process control methods
* Experience with working in Quality Management Systems like IS09001 or IS017025
* Effective procedure development and documentation skills
* Working with manufacturing sites and Contract Manufacturers in Asia
* Understanding of MRP planning systems and Bill of Material structures
* Working in a lean manufacturing environment
* Knowledge and experience in these areas will be an advantage
* LEAN, 6-s, Toyota PS, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies
* Electronics, basic circuit trouble shooting
* Oracle MPR system
* Statistical analysis software, i.e.: Minitab
* Programming skills, i.e.: LabView
* Computer Aided Design and 3D Printing
Education and Work Experience:
* Graduate Science or Engineering degree in Physics, Optics, Metrology, or related Engineering discipline. A bachelor's degree with appropriate experience may be considered
* 5 years of experience with lasers, optics, or other photonics technologies
* 5-10 years of experience in Process Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering
