Job Summary

The primary purpose of the MFGE Technician is to leverage technical expertise and hands-on engineering and manufacturing experience towards 1) the development of processes and improvements for new products and 2) the sustainment and improvement of existing products.

Levels of the MFGE Technician position will vary and are determined by accountability and ability to operate independently under the MFGE Manager and other team leaders. Involvement in Integrated Product Teams within Operations and Engineering, and ability to mentor or train other personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below apply to two different functional disciplines: mechanical and electrical. For the most part, the responsibilities are the same across the two disciplines for this job description, but when the tools and skillsets are different, they will be noted.

  • During Prototype and Low-Rate Initial Production phases, serve as a technician resource for Engineering teams as assigned by the MFGE Manager
  • Assemble and test electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Perform validation testing of the materials used in a product based on collaboration and direction of ENG and MFGE personnel
  • Assist in the design and build of assembly or test and provide input towards the development and implementation of preventative maintenance plans for those fixtures
  • Support the MFGE Manager and other personnel in devising product solutions during Prototype and Low-Rate Initial Production phases with incorporation of lean principles, technical expertise, appropriately documenting improvements, and drive solutions to completion
  • Troubleshoot electronic and electrical issues during all product phases and work with Manufacturing to solve production-related problems
  • Repair through-hole and surface mount PCBAs
  • Serve as a technician backup for Manufacturing during labor shortages
  • Build, test, and document wiring/cables based on requirements defined by internal and external customers
  • Depending on expertise, train Manufacturing and MFGE personnel on product assembly and test processes
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting observations from operators. Identify problems and offer initial solutions, support the development of improvement plans with MFGE and other departments (e.g. Materials, Quality Assurance, Document Control)
  • Understand and apply configuration management principles (e.g. revision control rules)
  • Document work performed to allow development of formalized, repeatable, and reliable assembly and test instructions
  • Participate in interdepartmental processes for releasing procurement and production realization data such as electrical schematics, PCBA packages, and Work Instructions
  • Create data for ERP/MRP implementation regarding Work Order planning and confer with Configuration Management Specialists and Material Planners for accurate Production Lists and part master records
  • Create and/or edit electrical component and assembly drawings in Altium or OrCAD (desired)
  • Participate in the identity verification process to access secure client or government portals by authorizing certified supplier management platforms to obtain information from your personal credit profile or other information, solely to verify your identity
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma and 5 years' experience in a related manufacturing engineering technician role
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both Analog and Digital circuits
  • Test equipment knowledge/proficiency
  • Desired: FW/SW programing skills at hardware level
  • Professional written and verbal communication, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Experience with MRP/ERP
  • Good arithmetic and logic ability
  • J-STD-001 for soldering workmanship
Physical Requirements
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone or virtually
  • Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, or assemble/manufacture intricate items
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials
  • Sitting or standing for an extended period of time
  • Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height. Any items that weigh more than 50 pounds will require two or more people or a lifting device to move
  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects

Pay/Salary Information Pay scale for this position depending on experience- $23.36- $40.00 Hourly
