Ability to read and create detailed engineering drawings. Specify and introduce new technologies, automation, methodologies, processes, tooling, gauges, fixtures, and equipment to improve processes, plant performance, and reduce costs. Gather and analyze data to understand a situation and make decisions independently. Knowledge of Lean philosophies such as 5S, One Piece Flow, Standard Work, Visual Management, Decision Matrices, etc. Coordinate effectively with teams of engineers, skilled trades, supervisors, and contractors to complete projects. Assemble prototype and production tools as required using shop equipment, welders, and hand tools. Assist in preparing Job Instructions and training operators in new processes. Enter, check, and maintain complex BOMs and drawings. Coordinate changes with affected departments as required. Support new product launches and act as the Engineering representative in cross functional team meetings. Partner effectively with staff at other DD locations to share best practices and resources as required. Maintain project tracking and visual management tools.WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS:REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Education: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, Strong oral and written communication skills.Communication Skills:Communicate effectively with other employees at all locations. Sound interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.Technical Skills: Familiarity with common metal fabrication techniques such as sawing, laser cutting, punching, machining, forming, and welding. Hands-on mechanical aptitude. Ability to safely and effectively operate common hand, power, and machine tools to produce prototype parts to specifications. Some diagnostics of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Computer Skills: Working knowledge of SolidWorks(or ability to learn), good file management practices, Microsoft suite of products. Mathematical Skills:Trigonometry, complex concepts of algebra, and geometry as required. Understanding of advanced math, graphing, and charting. Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.Reasoning Ability:Ability to safely and effectively problem solve in the office and on the shop floor.Physical Demands: Frequently required to sit, stand, climb ladders, work with computer keyboards, telephone, power tools, and welding equipment.Work Environment:Vision: close and distance focus, depth perception, color discrimination, peripheral vision.
