PRIMARY FUNCTION: Analyze, evaluate, plan, specify, and develop foundry processes using initiative, imagination, and judgment under general technical direction and supervision. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and designs facilities and layout for manufacturing processes and equipment, taking into account economic factors, process flow, operator efficiency and comfort. Develops solutions to a variety of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity by exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Applies continuous improvement and lean principles to improve manufacturing processes and methods resulting in cost savings, improved quality and higher efficiency. Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards. Applies technical problem definition and solution in assigned areas. Acts as liaison with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability. Develops tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns through application of engineering principles, concepts, practices and standards. Leads cross-functional studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles. Leads and manages cross-functional projects with medium levels of complexity. Projects typically have elements which are key to the success of the business unit. Determines the most efficient sequence of operations and work flow, and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel. Prepares cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluates cost factors. Oversees related Capital Investment project requests. Reviews product designs for producibility, providing technical input to correct design deficiencies in producibility. Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including training team members and evaluating the results Performs process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvements, and improved efficiencies Assists in the preparation of detailed layouts of buildings and equipment EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: BA or BS degree in an industrial related field or equivalent experience. Minimum five years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a foundry Knowledge of Green Sand and No-bake sand molding practices Knowledge of Core making practices and core handling devices OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires the ability to manage multiple projects in a systematic and orderly manner. COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook. CAD experience required WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS: Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person. Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use. General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel. Requires frequent contact with personnel from all departments and at all management levels and outside vendors.
