Kreyol Essence products are formulated specifically for those with dry hair, dry skin and curly hair. As a social business, we create work for over 300 farmers and women, plant to conserve the environment and seek to empower the women who craft our products and the women who use them.

Scope of Work Overview

Kreyol Essence is seeking a Finance and Administrative Controller who is excited about helping to keep a fast-growing business financially healthy with pristine accounting records.

This individual takes joy in being correct, knowing the books in and out, and being the go-to person for our small team when it comes to all things finance. From working with our CEO and COO on budgeting, payroll, and deduction management to supporting the team on administrative tasks, this individual takes joy in finance and administrative management. They should possess knowledge of e-commerce, experience working with a consumer-packaged goods company, and be a master of Microsoft Excel.

This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data to identify trends, measure performance, and support strategic decision-making.
    • Build and maintain financial models and forecasts.
    • Collaborate with senior management to interpret financial data and provide insights for informed business decisions.
  • Internal Controls & Accounting Processes:
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls over financial processes.
    • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
    • Ensure adherence to GAAP and other accounting standards.
    • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Management Reporting & Budgeting:
    • Work with department heads to develop and maintain operating budgets.
    • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
    • Prepare management reports to track key financial metrics and KPIs.
    • Support senior management with decision-making through insightful reporting and analysis.
  • Compliance & Audit:
    • Manage external audits and ensure timely responses to auditor inquiries.
    • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.
    • Stay abreast of relevant accounting regulations and industry best practices.
  • Technology & Systems:
    • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Billing.com. Shopify).
    • Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve financial operations.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with IT and other departments.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Manage relationships with lenders and investors.
    • Oversee the preparation of tax returns (may partner with external tax professional).
    • Serve as a financial advisor to the CEO and senior management team.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects as needed.

Qualifications:
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • 5+ years of experience in a controller or senior accounting role.
  • Experience working with Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies and e-commerce is required.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and managing financial teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and other accounting standards preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting a plus.
  • Knowledge of inventory management software a plus.
