Job Description
Summary: Responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of inpatient and outpatient surgery patients and outpatient procedure patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient by proper positioning and provides patient care as needed.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients and keeps accurate records. Formulates relevant nursing diagnosis based upon analysis of the data collected and the needs of the patient and family.
Develops and documents a plan for nursing care which describes a systematic method for achieving the pre and post procedural goals of adequately preparing the patient physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Establishes realistic, measurable goals that incorporate educational and discharge needs.
Assesses and identifies teaching and discharge planning needs of patients and families on admission through discharge.
In PACU, receives anesthetized patients from surgery and monitors their progress and provides appropriate nursing care to enable them to move from state of anesthesia to state of alertness.
Provides emergency post anesthesia care as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Experience in an operating room, post anesthesia care unit, and working knowledge of aseptic technique preferred. Telemetry experience preferred (if none, must successfully complete an EKG course within 6 months of hire).
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, employees, patients, families, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Basic PC skills required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current RN license in Ohio
ACLS certification required (must be obtained within 120 days of hire)
PALS certification required (must be obtained within 120 days of hire)
Current CPR certification
IV therapy certification
