RN Nurse Director for Adult Day Center
Full Time Monday - Friday, DAYS
No Weekends Required!

Responsibilities of a Nurse Director:
Knowledge
- Understands normal aging process.
- Maintains an up to date understanding of Alzheimer's and Dementia diseases, current treatment modalities, and medications.
- Understands and demonstrates behavior acceptance, validation principles and techniques to enhance participants self-esteem and maintain their rights.
- Maintains up to date understanding of normal aging and impacts of common diagnosis affecting elderly participants.
Clinical Skills
- Models behavior acceptance.
- Demonstrates an ability to assess and plan for participant care based on an understanding of clinical needs of participants.
- Assess each participant for appropriate level of care.
- Plans and implements all clinical, ADL needs of participants.
- Works with RN/CNA and other caregivers to provide an environment to facilitate maximizing participant physical and cognitive functioning, monitoring, and prevention.
- Manages all clinical emergencies.
- Communicates with family members/caregivers and physicians about participants medical needs and changes.
- Administers all medications and treatments.
- Conducts all routine monitoring and prevention activities of participants.
- Coordinates all care of other providers (PT/OT etc.).
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Oversees all clinical activities of CNA.
- Assists in training staff.
- Assists in planning, preparing for and managing the participant case meetings in conjunction with the Program Director and Case Manager/Social Worker.
Therapeutic Activities
- Develops, plans, and implements health education programs for all levels of participants based on age, gender, ability, cultural needs in consultation with the Activities Director.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of activities and adjusts as necessary.
- Incorporates appropriate activities into each participant's plan of care in consultation with the Activities Directors and program staff.
- Develops monthly calendar/schedule incorporating all therapeutic program elements in conjunction with the Activities Director.
- Assists in planning, preparing for and managing the participant case meetings in conjunction with the nurse and case manager/social work staff.
Nutrition Monitoring
- Assess participants nutritional status implements corrective action as necessary.
- Oversees special dietary needs.
- Assists in complex feeding needs.
- Works in conjunction with meal provider to ensure nutritional standards are met and maintained.
- Ensures all safety and cleanliness standards are met as established by the RI Department of Health, Department of Education, and other regulatory agencies.
Environmental Safety
- Ensures a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment is maintained.
- Ensures compliance with all universal precautions, health, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all fire, evacuation, and emergency procedures.
- Monitors and maintains the building and facilities.
Documentation
- Maintains all Center files and records.
- Maintains all nursing files and records.
- Communication log.
- Individual Participant Records.
- Infection Control Reports.
- Monthly Nursing Notes.
- Vital signs.
- Care Plans and assessments.
- Initial Assessments.
- Ensures participant files are up to date.
- Ensures all participant medical orders and communication is current.
- Documents all changes in status, emergencies and incidents.
- Weekly, Monthly and quarterly statistics.
Communication
- Facilities all formal and informal communication with staff members.
- Conducts monthly staff meeting.
- Attends Program Director meetings and other Cornerstone administrative meetings as necessary.
- Routinely communicates with family members /caregivers/physicians and staff.
- Updates staff on participant changes.
Program Management
- Hires, guides, develops and disciplines all Center staff.
- Assists in developing yearly projections and budgets.
- Monitors all resource utilization (salary and non-salary).
- Controls inventory of supplies and maintains purchasing system within budget.
- Oversees all daily operations of the Center.
- Assists staff in setting priorities, problem solving.
- Participates in the quality assurance program.
- Ensures participant satisfaction by monitoring complaints, case meetings and caregiver feedback.
- Reports and follows up with corrective action on all incidents.
- Serves as a liaison with community resources and volunteers.
Qualifications for a Nurse Director:
- Current and valid RN licensure.
- Nursing, Social Work, Recreational Therapy, etc. - Bachelors preferred.
- Food service certification a plus.
- 3-5 years working with elderly or special needs population in a community agency.
