MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reads and interprets work specification to plan and execute their requirements
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure job requirements are met
  • Manages and directs working crews ensuring quality of work and that safety procedures are followed
  • Fills Q.A. tickets out for visual welds
  • Writes Condition Reports

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fills in for Welding Shop Superintendent in his/her absence
  • Repairs welding equipment
  • Performs welding onboard ships and in shops
  • Analyzes new welding techniques and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ten years of experience welding experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of all welding processes used in ship repair.
  • Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to train others by example.
