Title: Welding Engineer - Welding and Automated System Design
Location: Meadville, PA
Job Description:
With 5 locations spread out across the Midwest, Phoenix is the largest pulsed YAG laser house in North America! Phoenix also engages in the design and build of custom automated welding equipment. We use welding to repair, modify and assemble various components, from injection molding dies to aerospace components. By using the latest technology in welding and additive manufacturing, we can achieve surface enhancements that are impossible with conventional welding. We are now seeking to increase our staff for upcoming automation projects.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist in design, set up, and execution of weld trials, resulting in parameters specific to the customer’s application.
- Evaluate technical requirements, collect and maintain experimental data, write summary of experiments and report data for customer presentations.
- Integrate with mechanical and control design groups to influence machine concept and design.
- Support sales as necessary in a technical and/or presentation role.
- Oversee welding projects on the shop floor to make sure welders are following WPS/codes correctly.
- Be able to work independently and able to assist in managing turn-key projects from cradle to grave.
Desired Skills:
- Hands on experience in welding and fabrication applications: cutting, welding/brazing, drilling, marking/engraving, welding of dissimilar metals a plus.
- Knowledge of or experience with CNC/robotic programming.
- Proficient in weld safety, weld filler selection, weld processing parameters, weld fixturing.
- Familiarity or experience with metallurgy, such as weld joint analysis, backing gas applications, coupon analysis, inspection techniques etc.
- Experience with rotating machinery (turbines, compressors, rotors) a significant plus.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to lead projects to completion with minimal oversight, while demonstrating significant problem-solving ability.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelors/master’s degree in engineering, material science, or physics.
