Job Summary Detroit Salt Company is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment in our underground salt mining facility. The successful candidate will manage equipment repair and preventative maintenance (PM) programs, establish maintenance priorities, and ensure the efficient operation of all mechanical systems. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and excellence. Duties and Responsibilities • Supervise Maintenance Activities: Manage and supervise all mechanical maintenance activities, including the repair and preventative maintenance of underground mining equipment. • Establish Priorities: Determine maintenance priorities based on equipment criticality, production schedules, and safety considerations. • Equipment Repair and PMs: Oversee the repair and maintenance of a wide range of mechanical equipment, including conveyors, crushers, drills, and other mining machinery. • Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety among the maintenance team. • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations. • Inventory Management: Manage spare parts inventory to ensure availability of critical components and minimize downtime. • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and PM schedules. • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and increased equipment reliability. • Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related mechanical discipline is preferred. • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a maintenance supervisor in an industrial environment, preferably within the mining or similar heavy industrial sector. • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment repair, and preventative maintenance programs. Familiarity with underground mining equipment is a plus. • Leadership: Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing maintenance teams. • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues effectively. • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization. • Safety Focused: Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and promoting a safety-first culture. Work Environment • Must be able to wear required PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, safety harness and electrical safety equipment). • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round. • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
