Employment Status: Full-Time - 40 hours per weekFLSA Status: Non-exempt/HourlySchedule: Monday - Sunday; 8:00AM - 4:00PM with 60 minute unpaid lunch. Must be flexible as hours will vary based on church needs, may require nights and weekend work as necessary.Reports to: Facilities ManagerFull-Time* Benefits include: •Paid Holidays/Holy Days (vary by location) •403b Retirement •401 (a) Pension Plan •Medical, Dental, Vision, Life •Employee Assistance Program •Short-term/Long-term Disability Summary: The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment, to include minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and painting. Must be able to perform some janitorial duties as assigned. This position also requires the individual to focus on maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and organized environment. The Maintenance Worker has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with organizational policies and guidance.Duties and Responsibilities:•Completes all maintenance work assigned and responds to after hour building maintenance and emergencies.•Perform repairs or general maintenance including minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, glazier, masonry, janitorial and painting tasks.•Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.•Ensures that heating and air conditioning units are functioning properly. Variance from expected norms will be reported to the Facilities Manager immediately. •Use of tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoist, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.•Moves and assists in transporting furniture and delivery of items to and from various facilities/sites.•Maintains security of campus buildings including checking, opening, closing and locking doors and windows, activating and deactivating building alarm and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.•Inspects buildings and other structures to detect malfunction and needed repair•Reconfigures, installs, positions furniture, wall panel, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc. to accommodate user needs and maximize office space. Uses various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks, as required.•Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and alterations of landscape areas: mow, weed, trim grass and shrubs, minor tree trimming and haul off, check as well as irrigation (sprinkler) maintenance.•Prepares, sets up and breaks down meeting room set up per work order request to include tables, chairs and meeting equipment.•Assisting with custodial duties when necessary, including floor refinishing (strip and wax), carpet cleaning and up-keep of campus.•Assists Facility Manager maintain an inventory of facility maintenance items, and order supplies as necessary.•Maintains record of scheduled maintenance procedures•Assist and attends to authorized contractors and vendors providing services to the parish.Other duties as required by Facility Manager, Business Manager or Pastor RequirementsQualifications and Requirements:•High school diploma, GED or equivalent.•Two years' experience in building and equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.•Supports and adheres to the religious standards, policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.•Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.•Must demonstrate ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must be willing to communicate and coordinate with members of the parish community with whom one may interact.•The ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders, parishioners and contractors/vendors. •Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work environment.•Punctuality and reliability are a must to ensure efficient, safe, thorough and timely operation of the custodial/maintenance program. As important is the proper and respectful interaction with other staff, parishioners, guests and contractors/vendors under daily working conditions.•The church parish operates seven days a week, except for scheduled holidays. Facilities, maintenance and custodial personnel will regularly work weekends and holidays as necessary according to schedules, and some early mornings and later evenings are necessary as the schedule requires.•Hired personnel will serve a 90-day evaluation and probationary period.•Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements.•Provide proof of valid driver's license and insurance.Preferred Qualifications:•Licenses (e.g. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, irrigation).•Fluency in Spanish is helpful though not required.Physical Demands/ Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level is moderate in the environment. The employee will be familiar with personal protective equipment and its proper usage.
