This position is for the manager and supervisor of the office’s risk management team, workers’ compensation team and pre-suit/early litigation matters in the County Counselor’s Office. The duties associated with this position may change as the needs of the office changes - such duties will be contained within the general Attorney IV job classification.
The typical starting salary range is between
$95,368.00
- $114,441.60

Provides advice, guidance and document review to subordinate attorneys and non-attorney staff in the County Counselor’s office related to pending claims, pre-suit matters and cases in the early stages of litigation. Provides advice, guidance and document review to subordinate attorneys and non-attorney staff in the County Counselor’s office related to claims filed with the Division of Worker’s Compensation. Collaborates with the litigation manager on claims, pre-suit matters and cases in litigation. Communicates and coordinates with the County’s third-party administrator, excess insurance carriers and County officers and employees. Oversees the office’s risk management functions, provides training and provides recommendations to minimize County risk and exposure. Submits work for review and makes recommendations to the Deputy County Counselor and County Counselor regarding pending claims, pre-suit matters and litigation. Reviews work of outside counsel when such counsel is retained for litigation matters. Performs related work as required. A Juris Doctor degree from an American law school accredited by the American Bar Association, current licensure as an attorney by the Missouri Bar Association and seven years of related experience. Risk management, workers’ compensation and litigation experience strongly preferred. SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT:
A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. HOW TO APPLY:
