Job Description
As a Machinist Trainee, you will be taught how to set up and operate CNC machines, manual mills, and manual lathes to produce precision parts in a timely manner. You will work closely with a trainer, learning step-by-step the intricacies of machine operation. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the machining trade while getting paid.
Responsibilities- Position and fasten workpieces.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and material onto machines.
- Select appropriate tools and materials for use.
- Machine parts to specifications.
- Set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical knowledge and instruments such as micrometers and gauges.
- Read and understand gauging sheets.
- Read and interpret blueprints and ensure machines and tooling are running properly.
- Complete onboarding system including 5S program, hazard assessment, job logging, safety, and data sheet systems.
- Practice proactive safe lifting and use of the hoist.
- Take detailed notes for future reference.
- Mathematical skills, including converting fractions to decimals.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Good attitude and trainability.
- Military or farm experience.
- Associates degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with machine operation, automotive repair, or construction.
- Experience in sports or as an athlete is a plus.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment includes night shifts (Monday-Thursday 7:30pm-6am), weekend day shifts (Friday-Sunday 6am-6:30pm), and weekend night shifts (Friday-Sunday 6pm-6:30am). Some overtime may be required, with 24-hour notice provided when possible. The company has approximately 165 employees and operates a large machine shop with multiple buildings and large equipment, primarily serving suppliers such as Caterpillar and Komatsu.
