What is Cool About this Job:
The evolution of our platform is required for our scale, and we are searching for an experienced Sr. Staff Software Engineer with expertise in CDN and Networking to join our rapidly growing engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CDN, distributed caching, and edge networking technologies..
The Day to Day:
Design, develop and deploy CDN configuration to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability for a wide range of customer websites with varied business requirements including ecommerce, presence, and media
Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams on networking and cloud security best practices, including edge computing principles and technologies
Implement and maintain and consult on edge security solutions, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and secure web gateways, to protect against external threats and unauthorized access
Stay up-to-date on emerging cloud technologies, security threats, and industry trends to continuously improve our cloud security posture
Develop and maintain documentation related to cloud network architecture and processes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security controls into edge networking solutions and ensure alignment with business objectives
Constantly look for opportunities to automate and optimize
Continuously improve WP Engine's secure, performant software platform that supports 10's of millions of end users
Expand and fine-tune observability services to aid engineering and support efforts and create better feedback loops
Work closely with Product Management to ensure that your changes add new value to our customers
Further an ecosystem of learning and mentorship
Your Expertise:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or a related field) OR equivalent experience
7+ years of hands-on software development experience in CDN engineering or cloud networking functions, delivering high quality solutions
Experience in HTTP technologies including reverse proxy (e.g., WAF and CDN), forward proxy (secure web gateway), serverless application development
Experience with cloud and containerised technologies and services - GCP, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network and security issues
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Track record of building resilient, scalable, enterprise-grade solutions.
Ability to work with and switch between multiple programming languages. (Python, Ruby, GoLang, Javascript, etc.)
Experience working with sophisticated, large-scale public cloud deployments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching, with hands-on experience in configuring cloud network infrastructure
Deep understanding in several networking and security operational concepts TCP, UDP, DNS, IPv4 + IPv6, BGP routing, GRE, SD-WAN, MPLS, Global Traffic Management, NAT, SSL/TLS, CDN, Firewall/WAF, OWASP, operational security, etc.
Understanding of, or experience with, cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., SOC-2, NIST, CIS) and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO/IEC)

Base Salary Range
$156,000.00 - $234,000.00
We believe that compensation should be reflective of the impact you have within the organization relative to the market value of your role. The estimated base salary range for this position is as listed above. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Our salary ranges are determined by job role and responsibilities and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for salaries for the position nationwide.
