  • Program hours are between 9am - 2pm, Monday - Thursday, occasional Fridays.

Position Description:

Recess Sports Leaders will enhance the recess and lunch experiences for students within the Newhall School District. Leaders will facilitate guided games and group sports. Games such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, handball, and more will cater to the diverse interests of students. The leaders will organize mini-tournaments and standalone games, offering instruction, explaining rules, and acting as referees to ensure a positive and engaging experience for all participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively build relationships between the teachers, the staff, and the students. Learn student's strengths and weaknesses so you can motivate and tailor lesson plans to meet their needs.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains program and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance with YMCA expectations.
  • Report problems, breakdowns in equipment, infringement on policies and unusual situations to appropriate supervisor/director.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to Restroom usage, and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
  • Understands and complies with current federal, state, local regulations, and YMCA policies and procedures at all times.

Qualifications:

  • AGE: 18 years or older
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: Kinesiology or Pedagogy background preferred. Previous experience working with grades K-5. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to youth, including diverse groups of Must possess knowledge and skill necessary to inform, educate and motivate students in all areas of health and physical fitness. Ability to counsel students on all aspects of physical fitness and barriers they must overcome to achieve their goals.
  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring); strong communication skills; emotional maturity.
