Job Description
CareLink is a non-profit, mission-based 501c3 organization that was founded in 1997 by non-profit post-acute and community-based organizations specializing in the care of older adults and adults with disabilities. These organizations include long-term care, housing, hospice, home care, assisted living and adult-day health. In addition, CareLink is a direct provider of a range of health and wellness services including rehabilitation (PT/OT/SLP), mobile dental, audiology, podiatry, psychiatry, brain health and wellness services. We keep individuals doing the things that they want to do, independently, in the place they call home.
This part-time position is for Mondays or Tuesdays for 3-6 hours with additional hours dependent on provider's availability and patient needs. Ability and willingness to travel within the state of Rhode Island is required and payment for a portion of travel time is available. We offer an amazing team, rewarding work, and much more!
The Podiatrist will understand and model the mission of CareLink and will collaborate with CareLink leadership team to further develop the program practice. The Podiatrist assesses patient needs and plans and delivers direct podiatric care to residents of skilled nursing, assisted living or other congregate care facilities utilizing established protocol and current standards of practice. The Podiatrist will be supported in provision of mobile podiatry services by CareLink’s clinical and operational resources.
Essential Functions:
- Review patients’ medical history and consult with medical and nursing staff at facility
- Evaluate the condition of the feet, ankle or lower leg
- Provide routine preventative diabetic foot and ankle care
- Prescribe and fit prosthetic appliances such as shoe inserts to improve patients’ mobility
- Collaborate with medical and nursing staff on wound and infection management
- Collaborate with medical and other specialists to provide neuropathic pain management
- Prescribe medication for common foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel stress, and athlete’s foot
- Refer patients to other specialists as appropriate to treat conditions such as diabetes or arthritis
- Provide education to the nursing facility staff on the importance of foot care
- Direct and supervise the activities of podiatrist assistant
- Advise patients on ways to increase speed of recovery and prevent future leg problems
- Monitor the recovery progress of patients to determine the need for change in treatment
Medical specialties:
- Geriatrics

- Possess a doctoral degree in podiatric medicine (DPM)
- Current RI Dept. of Health License
- Must be up to date with vaccinations as required by RI state law
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Experience caring for older adults and/or adults with disabilities preferred
