Job Description
Join our dynamic engineering team to develop next-generation equipment. Collaborate with Scientists, Mechanical and Software Engineers, and Test Engineers to design and sustain PLC-based machine control systems, addressing issues from obsolescence to feature updates. You will also troubleshoot designs down to the component level and perform root cause analysis.

The role involves working with X-ray radiation producing machines, radioactive materials, high voltage, heavy machinery, electric and hydraulic power systems. You must be able to follow safety precautions in various industrial environments, including temperature, humidity, noise, and confined spaces. Dress code and safety gear requirements will be in accordance with the industrial setting.

Job Description
Join our dynamic engineering team to develop next-generation equipment. Collaborate with Scientists, Mechanical and Software Engineers, and Test Engineers to design and sustain PLC-based machine control systems, addressing issues from obsolescence to feature updates. You will also troubleshoot designs down to the component level and perform root cause analysis.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a cross-functional engineering team to develop next-generation X-ray based security equipment.
- Design PLC-based machine control systems, including circuit design, embedded programming, motion control, and power distribution.
- Perform sustaining engineering of existing products, including addressing obsolescence issues and implementing feature changes or updates.
- Design printed circuits and direct PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly.
- Produce engineering documentation such as design specifications, interface control documents, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.
- Troubleshoot existing and new designs down to the component level, performing root cause analysis.
- Develop solutions independently for smaller projects, present concepts and designs in reviews, and complete implementations.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 4 years of professional experience.
- Ability to see a design through from R&D to production, including writing specifications, developing design documentation, building prototypes, designing test fixtures, designing for production, and troubleshooting problems.
- Experience in industrial control system design, including PLCs, machine safety, panel/enclosure design, object sensing, electrical interfaces, circuit protection, communications protocols, and power distribution.
- Experience with PLC or embedded software development.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, and bench supplies.
- Familiarity with product development processes, including design specifications, design reviews, engineering drawings and documentation formats, and ECR processes.
- Comfort working with and around X-ray radiation producing machines, radioactive materials, high voltage, heavy machinery, electric and hydraulic power systems.
- Ability to effectively work with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
- Must be able to work safely and follow safety precautions in industrial environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.) and around industrial equipment.
- Proficiency in PLC code, IEC61131 languages.
- Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Orcad, PADS, Altium).
- Knowledge of radiation detection technologies and data acquisition systems.
- Knowledge of X-ray producing machinery.
- Experience developing system architectures and designs for complex systems.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance, access SSI.
