**Job Title: Painter for Metal Manufacturer**

**Job Description**

The position of Painter is to prepare any fabricated material for paint. This will include brushing, wiping with Mineral Spirits (paint thinner), dry wiping, grinding fabricated material. Painters must have the ability to use a 12 lb. grinder for extended periods of time. Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather, including hot, cold, windy, and rainy situations. Painters must be able to work efficiently and lead other (brushers) to meet shipping deadlines. Must be able keep track and fill out documentation slips on various items. Painters must be able to operate an office scanner for record keeping purposes. Other duties as needed to be assigned.

At the start of every shift, with PPE in place, the Painter will:

1. Setup the equipment they need to begin work. Any time they are required to use a power tool, they are responsible for inspecting both the tool and the power cord in question, to ensure they are in safe working condition. If it is found that any equipment is not in safe working condition, it is to be brought to either the Purchasing Manager or the Production Manager. A replacement will be issued at that time.

2. The Painter will determine the best way to process each piece that is to be primed. Most commonly this will be either dry wiping the material or wiping it down with paint thinner, removing all excess debris. In the case of excessive rust or build-up (slag), a wire brush on a 7 grinder is to be used to remove the debris.

3. Once all the debris is removed, the Painter will apply the specified amount of primer to the material. The Painter is to assist with paint block at this time, up to and including wiping paint block from freshly painted material.

4. Once material has been painted and dried, the Painter will assist the Painter in stacking material for the Shipping department to collect. This may require proper documentation of what is on a stacked pallet or ensuring that the same job and part number is stacked together, as in 20 ledger angles.

**Hard Skills**

+ Painter experience in industrial environment

+ Experience using sprayer, grinder, blaster, and more

+ Must be able to work outdoors

**Work Site**

This is a fully on-site position in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

**Work Environment**

Structural steel/fabrication shop that makes architectural pieces- stairs and rails that go inside buildings, hospitals, universities, and stadiums.
