Vedder Price is looking for a Litigation/Labor & Employment Paralegal to join one of their California offices. The Litigation/Labor & Employment Paralegal will assist attorneys with various substantive and administrative responsibilities from case inception to resolution. Coordinate and oversee all case-related eDiscovery with the assistance of the eDiscovery team.
As a Litigation/Labor & Employment Paralegal, your duties will include but not be limited to:
- Participate in initial client and witness interviews, investigations, fact analysis and conference calls as needed.
- Coordinate/run background searches, public records research, arbitrator searches and bio summaries.
- Analyze documentary evidence, including preparation of chronologies, timelines, etc.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and agencies such as court reporters, law clerks, eDiscovery vendors, etc.
- Cite and fact checking, including pulling cases and documentation, shepardizing, and citation verification.
- eDiscovery: Manage and organize large volume of documents, especially client document collections. Perform complex searches, review and manage large discovery matters within Relativity and other web-accessible review platforms. Coordinate and collaborate with eDiscovery staff to ensure legal team needs are defined and met.
- Assist with compiling data and running data analytics.
- Prepare templates and initial drafts of pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and related legal documents.
- Prepare deposition testimony categorization using Opus2 Magnum or another deposition review tool.
- Knowledge of filing/e-filing procedures and coordinate with the Docketing Department regarding filing.
- Supply factual support for statement of facts (reviewing declarations, depositions and documents) and draft initial statements.
- Trial Support: Organize and prepare trial materials, specifically pleadings, witness prep materials, trial notebooks, exhibits, deposition designations and demonstratives. Attend and assist attorneys in the courtroom at hearing, trial and arbitrations.Use digital presentation tools in the courtroom.
- Provide direction and guidance to project assistants assigned to case team.
- 1500 billable hours target.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must be available to work overtime and travel, as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, attention to detail, and muti-tasking to meet competing demands.
- Excellent research, verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' law firm experience in the Litigation or Labor Practice Area required
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:
- Adobe; Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel; Relativity; proficiency using the Internet for fact research; experience with deposition management software and document management software
- Experience using litigation support software for managing files and transcripts preferred. (e.g., Relativity, Everlaw, Opus2 Magnum, and Adobe).
Compensation Range: $85,000/yr. to $140,000/yr.
