EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time position
PRIMARY DUTY: The Electrician performs complex technical work, on a journeyman level, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems, in accordance with applicable Electrical Industry Codes. The Electrician inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions, performs required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or re-wiring of circuits, and provides an estimate of repair (and/or replacement) costs beyond the capability to perform. The Electrician also calculates branch circuit loads, interprets electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determines methods and requirements for wiring circuits.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work thehours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break and after-hour emergency calls; Work special campus events as needed (Athletic, Encore, etc.); Dusty, cold, and/or hot working conditions; Height up to 60' or work in tunnels; This position is considered essential staff. Essential staff provide services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the University, ensure continuity of key operations, and maintain and protect University properties. Should the University close for any reason, essential staff will report to work as usual.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Electrical test equipment and small hand and power tools, such as wrenches, drills, soldering irons, volt-ohmmeters, amp meters, circuit testers, and vacuum and pressure gauges, bucket truck, scissor lift, and sky jack lift
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and heavy lifting; Must be able to work in some uncomfortable or cramped positions and under extreme weather conditions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan layout, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, such as switches, relays, VFDs, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Install, maintain, modify and repair all electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment.
- Remain in compliance with current National Electric Code.
- Inspect and test components of electrical systems, including transformers, transfer switches, switch gears, and VFDs.
- Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
- Identify issues and make corrective measures to fix problems with electrical components.
- Obtain price quotations on materials needed; submits purchasing orders for approval.
- Effectively handle electrical installation/repair work orders, pm work orders and complete on schedule.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet schedules.
- Observe safety and security procedures; Determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; Report potentially unsafe conditions; Use equipment and materials properly.
- Utilize work order system to record detailed handling of scheduled assignment including hours needed to complete assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High school diploma
- Certification/License: Valid driver's license; OSHA 10 (or the ability to obtain within a year); Forklift Certification (or the ability to obtain within a year)
- Experience: Journeyman-level skills OR five years of experience in the electrical trade (Experience must include a thorough working knowledge of National Electrical Codes for installation and maintenance of electrical systems)
- Skills: Ability to install and maintain motors, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers; ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, VFDs, and other electrical equipment; knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits; ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade; ability to install grounding leads; ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work; ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers as appropriate to the position; ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances; ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers; knowledge of working with bucket trucks, scissor lifts, sky jack lifts
