Position Summary:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Service Worker I is responsible for performing all the tasks necessary to keep the facility safe, clean, neat and attractive and operating in optimum fashion every day. The Building Services Worker performs all regularly scheduled tasks as well as projects assigned by supervisor and those which arise on an as needed basis. May be required to adjust hours as needed to meet the needs of the department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Housekeeping:
  • Open buildings as scheduled, perform daily scheduled opening tasks (e.g. collecting and packaging the bio-hazardous waste, ensuring flag is hung)
    • Perform regular routine housekeeping tasks (i.e. cleaning assigned spaces, making sure public areas are clean and set up properly, setting up event spaces, replenishing supplies etc.)
    • Respond to staff pages for small immediate tasks such as thermostat adjustments and spills
    • Perform seasonal or other special assigned housekeeping tasks (i.e. washing walls, floors and windows, graffiti removal, moving and/or storing furniture etc)
Grounds Keeping:
  • Perform daily tasks on grounds such as picking up trash, sweeping and emptying trash receptacles
    • Maintain flower beds and lawns by raking, weeding, planting/transplanting plants, watering, mulching, mowing and trimming
    • Perform CSHC assigned tasks in Codman Common
    • Ensure delivery access to rear entrance and Kit Clark and orderly use of employee parking
Maintenance:
  • Perform routine and general maintenance tasks
    • Make general repairs including minor carpentry, patch and paint, hanging of needle boxes, paper towel holders, etc.
    • Minor plumbing and electrical repairs such changing light bulbs and fixing leaky faucets
    • Communicate needs for maintenance or repair as noticed or requested by staff to supervisor
Miscellaneous:
  • Assist with the conduct of fire drills
    • Respond to "Dr. Strong" pages
    • Run interference for construction projects
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Experience, knowledge, and ability to complete all housekeeping, maintenance, and ground keeping duties. Housekeeping, grounds keeping and maintenance skills are required.

Skills Required:
  • Must have the physical capacity to complete said responsibilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing, without any restrictions or major driving violations
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
