Job Description:
KMT Waterjet, Inc., a Shape Technologies Group Company is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our Quality team. In this role, you will manage the quality output of strategic suppliers in the US region. The primary responsibility of this position is to identify, qualify, develop, and improve strategic suppliers. You will partner with these strategic suppliers and foster a long-term relationship. You will report to the Director of Quality and collaborate closely with other departments to maintain seamless operations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Take responsible for establishing, monitoring and improving KPIs in the areas of quality and delivery at all regional strategic suppliers
- Function as technical leader in product transfers and part qualifications
- Act as Supplier's first point of contact for technical questions, issues, and escalations.
- Manage Supplier Corrective Actions
- Drive Implementation of engineering changes at strategic suppliers
- Reflect supplier capability in DFM/DFA guidelines for the development of new SHAPE products.
- Drive design and specification changes internally as required to resolve documentation and/or capability issues
- Assess new suppliers' technical capabilities and quality system robustness. Justify the selection of suppliers given the requirements.
- Utilize the Part Qualification process to authorize procurement of new or existing parts/assemblies. Lead suppliers through the establishment of "process of record" including technical manufacturing process development, control plan development, compilation, and analysis of evidence of compliance in preparation for part qualification.
- Lead issue resolution using the 8D problem-solving methodology ensuring accurate documentation of root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventative actions. Enable suppliers with training and coaching on applicable tools E.g. Fishbone, 5Why DOE, FMEA.
- Collect and analyze supplier defect data for trends requiring improvement. Utilize SQE toolset to improve supplier performance to meet SHAPE objectives.
- Represent the supplier to internal stakeholders. Ensure suppliers' voices regarding DFM/DFA are heard in design reviews. Ensure suppliers understand design specifications during the development of manufacturing processes for components and assemblies.
- Effectively communicate status, results, and conclusions through formal reports, documentation, and presentations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results without direct authority
- Establishment and management of KPIs in a supplier context
- Utilizing structured problem-solving tools, quality management systems, and process control tools to achieve KPIs
- High level of analytical ability and rich toolset for solving complex problems. Familiarity with statistical engineering methods (i.e. DOE, SPC, MSA, capability studies).
- Quality System development; best practices coaching, development of procedures, work instructions and auditing,
- Experienced in the qualification of manufacturing processes, qualification of production equipment, and process validation.
- Strong project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, and leading meetings.
- Familiarity with phased product development.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering is required.
- 10+ years' experience in a product development and manufacturing environment (preferably in an equipment-related industry) performing functions such as manufacturing engineering, process engineering, product development, etc.
- Experience with remote production in low-cost regions
- Strong Problem-solving skills
- Excellent Communication skills, verbal, written, presentation, and data management, able to deliver difficult messages effectively so issues can be addressed in a collaborative way.
