Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Structural Engineer to take control of their career potential in our Chicago office. This position will partner with a multi-discipline team to develop designs of electrical substations to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States and Canada.

Opportunities may include, but not limited to:
  • Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by the largest utilities in North America.
  • Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
  • Providing support for our clients during construction.
  • Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
  • Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
  • Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Participating in project proposal efforts.
  • Advancing into leadership roles.
Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of structural engineering experience.

Must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
  • Standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Structural analysis programs, RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, or SAFE.
  • CAD programs, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit.
  • Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations,
  • Structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
  • Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus two (2) years of structural engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have two (2) years of experience in each of the following:
  • Standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Structural analysis programs, RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, or SAFE.
  • CAD programs, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit.
  • Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
  • Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
