Summary: Roofers maintain, repair and replace roof coverings and assemblies including clay and concrete tile, asphalt shingles, sheet metal, built up asphalt roofs, foams, PVC single ply, and torch down single ply. Inspect, maintain and repair any roof penetrations such as drain pipes, skylights, HVAC ducts and curbs, conduits, pipes for water dispersion. Carpentry repairs and new installations of roof structures. Provide emergency services for leak repairs during and after working hours. Inspect and repair roofing sub-structures, sheeting and framing. Maintaining watertight integrity of entire building envelope, including windows, doors parapets, and sub-grade construction. Replace water damaged insulation, and ceiling tiles. Roofers use JET-VAC machine to open clogged roof and storm drainage systems on school roofs and grounds. Maintain and repair tools and equipment of the roofing trade.
Essential Duties:
- Responsible for installing and maintaining roof drains, plumbing drain pipes, and installing metal drain covers, stripping and flashing.
- Performs maintenance on a variety of roof types including single ply, rubber, polyvinylchloride, built-up and shingles.
- Reviews and assures new construction and renovation plans are completed as designed
- Plans, organizes, and tracks the use of on-job materials, extra materials, additional labor to be posted, material postings and material returns.
- Responsible for determining all equipment is in safe working order. Reports the condition of equipment to the project manager and ensures the equipment is appropriately repaired
- Manages and maintains a clean and professional jobsite, ensures safety standards are followed, inspects new and renovated roofs
- Operates a Jet Vac sewer machine to clean out clogged roof drain lines and catch basins.
- Maintains parking lots by pressure washing to get rid of mud and debris
- Accountable for snow removal from building entrances during inclement weather
- Removes old roof, slag, and insulation; clean roof deck and remove rotted wood.
- Responsible for installing metal gravel stops and other metal work on roofs as well as applying asphalt and roofing stone to finished roof.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good working conditions.
- Responsible for performing emergency repairs as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned
Minimum:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 3 - 5 years in Roofing experience
- Ability to repair BUR, Standing Seam Metal Roofs, Shingles, Modified Bitumen, Single ply Roofs - EPDM, PVC, TPO, Hypalon.
- Trade school or Community College Roofing courses
- 5 - 7 years in Commercial Roofing
- Valid Driver's License; Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid CDL Class A Driver's license
- Ability to obtain a District approved certification or state licensure and/ or varies roofing product specific certification(s)
- Knowledge of principles, practices and methods used in the maintenance and repair of roofs.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes rules and regulations related to the work.
- Knowledge of various chemical properties for proper adhesion and avoid chemical reactions
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Skilled in oral and written communication
- Skilled in handling multiple task and prioritizing
- Skilled using computers and related software
- Ability to Estimate materials, labor and equipment needed for a variety of roofing maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to Work in extreme weather/temperatures.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints for construction at 90 - 100% DD for architects and engineers
- Ability to inspect all new roofs for correct installation of roofing felt plies and making sure all plies are bonded and water tight
- Ability to inspect taper slope in roofs are holding water or ponding
- Ability to inspect all roof drains and over flows for correct installation
- Ability to inspect installation and flashing of all vent pipes
- Ability to inspect all pitch pans, roof curbs, base flashing, cap-flashings, expansion joint covers, wall coping caps on standing locking seams to make sure they are secure and fastened
- Ability to inspect all walls above roofs for correct installation of base flashing, cap flashings, windows louvers, thru-wall drains, and vertical wall joints to make sure they are all water tight
- Ability to be on call on a 24 hour basis
- Ability to operate jet machine tech, unstop roof drains, catch basins and replace roof drains and pipes
- Ability to diagnose problems using various techniques
- Ability to do basic sheet metal work related to flashing, etc.
- Ability to use software programs such as MP2, roof manager, etc. to get work order information and data
- Ability to interpret roof (and related) blueprints and drawings and specifications
- Ability to install, repair drain/ storm water piping (plumping type work)

Physical Requirements:
