CLASS TITLE: TYPIST CLERK III
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform a variety of responsible and technical clerical duties requiring specialized knowledge and independent judgment involving frequent and responsible public contact; provide for proper input and output of a variety of data.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Typist Clerk III classification performs a variety of complex and diverse clerical duties involving independent judgment and action within a specific office functional area which requires a knowledge of the function served or provides sole clerical support to a major school or District office function. The Typist Clerk II classification performs a variety of clerical support duties involving application of broadly defined policies and procedures.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class.
Perform a variety of technical clerical functions in support of an assigned supervisor; coordinate office activities to reduce administrative detail for the assigned supervisor and other certificated or classified employees. E
Prepare and type letters, memoranda, forms, records, reports, bulletins, handbooks, questionnaires, requisitions and documents; duplicate a variety of materials. E
Receive and screen phone calls and visitors; schedule appointments and provide information and direct inquiries and visitors to the proper person or office; transmit confidential or sensitive information as appropriate; provide technical information concerning policies and procedures of assigned program or office according to established guidelines. E
Input, output, update and access a variety of records and information into computer system. E
Compose correspondence either independently or from oral instruction, letters, memos and other forms of communication, requesting or providing information or letters dealing with school or District Office information. E
Review and proof a variety of forms and materials for completeness, accuracy and conformance to established regulations and procedures. E
Perform technical responsibilities related to assigned function such as compiling information from a variety of sources and preparing complex reports as required by District, County, State or federal regulations; communicate with other agencies or departments to provide or obtain a wide variety of information. E
Prepare and maintain a variety of logs, files and records; maintain inventory; order, store and issue supplies and materials as assigned. E
Assure the timely distribution and receipt of a variety of records and reports; request or provide information as necessary to assure completeness and accuracy. E
Operate a variety of office machines including a computer terminal, typewriter, calculator and duplicating machine. E
Maintain confidentiality of a variety of sensitive information. E
Post cumulative records and other specialized records.
Assist in registration process and special programs as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and increasingly responsible clerical experience.

Office environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and standard office equipment.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to maintain and retrieve files.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

Requirements / Qualifications
BASIC FUNCTION:

Work available in:
- Multiple locations (Elementary, Middle, High Schools, and departments such as School Readiness and Preschool)
- Varying hours per day
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and responsible clerical experience.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
The following MUST be attached to application on or before the deadline:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent OR Associate's Degree OR Bachelor's Degree OR Higher Education Degree
- Typing Certificate for 50 words net per minute from clear copy.
AND
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATES:
ATTACH TO APPLICATION per district standard: current typing certificate (within last 6 months) for 50 NWPM (5-minute test with 5 or less errors). Original typing certificate must be verified. Internet certificates are not acceptable. A practical job skills test may be administered as part of the interview process. If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B tested and fingerprinted.
