Electrical Engineer I (Pittsburgh)

BASIC FUNCTION:

To design and develop new products for existing and emerging markets to increase company profits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Work on new product development or product improvement at the direction of the RF Product Development Manager. Design RF, analog, and digital circuits as required for product development. Create, release, and maintain parts lists, BOMs, ECNs, design documentation, analysis, and test results.
  2. Integrate existing RF over IP (RFoIP) modules and assemblies into new products by adding hardware and firmware interfaces to meet functional requirements.
  3. Apply Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques to RFoIP products to improve performance and add new features.
  4. Research market demand and customer product or feature requests to determine potential product developments. Provide the results to management.
  5. Update or add new features to existing or legacy products as directed by management by modifying firmware and/or hardware.
  6. Design digital control circuits and implement these in programmable logic devices.
  7. Write software and firmware to control products and circuits.
  8. Assist in resolving manufacturing and/or production issues. Trouble-shoot and repair digital and analog (RF) products and determine the root cause of failures. Assist with Production as directed.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Must have excellent written, verbal and graphical communication skills along with the ability to interact and communicate with individuals at various levels of the organization. This position requires professionalism & diplomacy.

Work requires attention to detail and a strong math aptitude as well as strong planning, organizational, time, problem solving and project management skills.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must have knowledge of typical business operations and working use of a variety of office equipment and computer software applications such as word processing, & database software (MSWord, Outlook, Internet, etc).

Must be skilled in digital circuit design and have an understanding of the concepts of how to use high-speed A/D and D/A ICs and circuits to digitize analog RF signals for transport and then convert them back to analog signals while maintaining a high degree of signal integrity.

Must have an understanding of basic DSP techniques and how they are implemented in programs. Must be able to program in C language.

Must have a basic understanding of RF signals and their use for satellite communications. Must be able to learn RF signal management and analysis.

Must be able to understand and follow departmental operations and procedures.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 0-5 years of DSP or RF design experience is preferred for this position.
