Job Description
- Develop and manage Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, ensuring that accountability for EHS performance is embedded at all levels of leadership and among employees across all locations. Facilitate employee participation in the Management of Environmental, Safety, and Health (MESH) Assessment System. Support the "ACHIEVE ZERO" safety culture, advising on EHS issues, interpreting regulations, and helping to define effective solutions
- Integrate EHS policies into daily operations and provide guidance to leadership, branch managers, and supervisors.
- Coordinate EHS efforts across all locations and departments, working to create a safer environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Lead MESH assessments, PSM/RMP audits, PHA re-validation audits, and other EHS-related audits.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and tracking of EHS procedures, practices, and record-keeping.
- Ensure the timely and accurate submission of EPA, OSHA, FRA, and DOT compliance reports.
- Set clear EHS goals and objectives for the organization at all levels.
- Stay updated on EHS regulations and best practices, ensuring the organization is compliant with all local, state, and federal requirements and that EHS policies are communicated effectively.
- Conduct accident and incident investigations, using cause-mapping techniques to identify corrective actions. Interview employees to understand incidents and assess the effectiveness of corrective measures.
- Ensure health and safety policies are communicated to all employees and that appropriate training is provided and maintained.
- Regularly review risk assessments for equipment and processes, evaluating the effectiveness of safety procedures and controls.
- Apply knowledge of human behavior and equipment safety to prevent injuries and damage from accidents or operational errors.
- Focus on controlling chemical and physical hazards in the workplace to prevent injury or illness, and educate employees on safe practices.
- Review plans for new processes, equipment, and Management of Change (MOC) requests to ensure compliance with EHS standards.
- Lead the company's Safety Committees and foster a collaborative approach to safety.
- Track and report on EHS system performance to drive continuous improvement.
- Promote the "Achieve Zero" safety culture, working toward a zero-injury, zero-incident environment by fostering a results-oriented, safety-first mindset across teams.
- Perform other duties as needed.
The Successful Applicant
- 5+ years of experience in a EH&S role for a chemical manufacturer (or adjacent industry)
- Bachelor's Degree
- Knowledge of municipal, regional, and federal Hazardous Materials Regulations and Environmental affairs.
- Competent in OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Plan Regulations.
- Must be able to interpret federal and state regulations (and their intent) to propose proper solutions for specific work environments.
