Description
Position Summary: The Electrician's apprentice assists in the tasks of maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems, services and equipment for the University. The Electrician's Assistant also aids in the maintaining and providing for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in the University's facilities, including commercial kitchen machinery and other mechanical fixtures that are electrically energized. The Apprentice will report directly to the Senior Director of Maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance and Repair - Under the Guidance of Journeyman Electrician
This position is a full-time position in Campus Enhancement Services. The Electrician's Apprentice reports to the Senior Director of Maintenance.
WORK SCHEDULE:
8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday. Hours of work and task assignments may vary dependent upon situational factors, crisis management, and/or weather-related factors, and may require night(s), weekend(s) and holiday(s) response.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance and Repair - Under the Guidance of Journeyman Electrician
- Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics and blueprints.
- Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
- Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics or blueprints.
- Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems and equipment using testing instruments.
- Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader and conduit bender.
- Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc.
- Select material and hardware needed to complete repairs or installations, and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records of material and labor used
- Maintain inventory of University-owned tools, equipment and materials
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment, following established inspection procedures
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure work areas are clean
- Prioritize work orders, handle urgent requests and complete any and all reactive work and procedures
- Respond to emergency calls as needed
- Attend Tech school and earn Journeyman License/Certification while completing work hours required for a standard work week. This process should completed in 3 years or less from time of employment.
- Within a year of employment, be able to independently complete tasks that are deemed appropriate by the CES Senior Director and VP that indicate growth and learning has occurred during time already served
- Also be able to take on any other tasks that may be requested by CES VP and Directors
Safety - Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
- Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching
- Occasional heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds
- Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Works around electrical power lines, circuits and wiring
- Significant fine finger dexterity
- Works inside and outside in varying weather conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures

Qualifications
- Affirm an understanding of the Baptist Faith & Message 2000

- Have a High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Clean driving record
- Exhibit good mechanical skills to handle equipment to avoid causing injuries to self and/or others
