The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities & Services is seeking applications for a Campus Service Worker/Laborer position. This position will provide a variety of support services for Faculty, Staff, and all academic functions and special events throughout the WVU campus, regional campuses, and throughout the state. Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead, this position will maintain and care for the exterior appearance of institutional buildings, lawns, plantings, and grounds surrounding the campus utilizing hand tools, walk-behind equipment, and small riding equipment.

- Wellness programs
- Relocates offices and classrooms within buildings and throughout campus by lifting, loading and unloading furniture, file cabinets, boxes, etc. onto hand trucks, dollies, and box vans for transportation. May require removing desk components, doors, and shelves to ease in relocations. Moves, sets-up, rearranges, and erects tables, chairs, platforms, bleachers, tents, displays, etc. May assist in the design for special event set-ups. Reads floor plans and layouts for concerts, registration, commencement, and other special statewide University affiliated events. Drives box vans, forklifts, front loaders, small dump trucks, and operates lift gates. Operates, maintains, and services equipment and tools that are used while performing moves, set-ups, sanitation services, and snow removal.
- Operates motor vehicle (i.e. car, box van, pick-up truck, fork lift, front loader, small dump truck...) to transport people, to deliver/receive surplus for inventory control, to deliver, receive, or remove surplus materials for shops and equipment throughout the campus and community and statewide. Unloads and stores supplies, rotating stock and equipment at various job sites. Establishes and maintains inventory of departments throughout institutional buildings, warehouse, or stockroom on equipment e.g. tables, chairs, tents, staging, platforms.
- Collects and properly disposes of trash and litter throughout institutional buildings and grounds, including cleaning of trash receptacles and assisting sanitation vehicles operators. Collects and properly stores hazardous materials, e.g. muriatic acid, propane, diesel fuel, anti-freeze, chlorine, alcohol, and sodium bi-carbonate.
- Removes snow from sidewalks, steps, roads, and parking lots using hand tools, power brooms, and snow blowers. Spreads de-icers and limestone chips on all areas as needed. Removes graffiti from walls and sidewalks; performs all outside cleaning activities as required. Operates high-pressure washers, sandblasters, and other power equipment to complete these tasks. Operates blowers and walk-behind sweepers to clean and remove debris in maintaining the appearance of institutional grounds.
- Assists with landscape construction by: operating jackhammers and other related equipment to remove broken sidewalks; mixing, pouring, and spreading concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials; digs holes and trenches to assist in the repair or replacement of utility lines, irrigation and drainage systems by using hand and power tools; excavates and prepares grounds prior to initiation of construction projects.
- Will be required to maintain and care for institutional grounds by mowing, trimming and edging around trees, flower beds, buildings, and walkways; watering lawns, shrubs, and ornamental gardens during dry periods. Removes weeds from flowers, shrubs, and ground cover as required. Removing and disposing of debris throughout grounds area. Collects recyclable items and places in appropriate storage location. Must be able to provide support to academics, special events for WVU campus community, regional campuses, and throughout the state, which requires flexible hours and mandatory overtime.
- Assists in preparing grounds and ornamental beds for planting and seeding, hauls and spreads topsoil and mixed in fertilizer, peat moss, compost vermiculite, and other additives to condition the soil. Assists in planting ornamentals, flowers, shrubs, and trees as required.
- Operates, services, and maintains hand power tools and equipment such as weed-eaters, lawn mowers, roto-tillers, walk-behind sweepers, and vacs.
- May be required to perform various maintenance tasks either assisting or under the direction of qualified craft persons (plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.). These tasks would be considered non-technical, non-certified, supporting duties. Attends various training classes, seminars, and other meetings to learn new techniques and procedures and to remain current in all safety requirements. Must be able to respond to emergency situations and events, which include snow removal.
- Assembles/disassembles all furniture, work stations, stages, platforms, tents, portable flooring; hangs banners, signs, and special displays.

Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Valid driver's license issued within the United States
- Preference will be given to candidates with greater amounts of directly related experience
- Physical coordination and demands:
- Physical exertion when lifting 50 pounds weights daily
- Lifting of items weighing up to 100 pounds frequently
- Working on feet for extended period daily
- Climbing, stooping, bending, working from ladders, working in confined spaces daily
- Safely moving objects in excess of 1,000 lbs. to several tons frequently
