Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer

Basic Function

HF Sinclair Parco Refining LLC in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert for all issues pertaining to rotating machinery in the refinery including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, blowers, gearboxes and large motors. Provide input on the maintenance, design, and recommendations for all types of rotating equipment, systems and parts. This role requires a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.

Job Duties

  • Serve as a knowledgeable technology source of all rotating machinery in the refinery including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, blowers, gearboxes and large motors.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Department, Operations Department, and Process Engineering personnel to provide technical input on rotating equipment repairs, improvements, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Provide technical direction for machinery selection including review of engineering specifications, technical bid evaluations, purchase recommendations, and review of supplier data to assure compliance to specifications.
  • Provide rotating machinery expertise to projects, studies, and plant issues.
  • Participate in investigations involving rotating equipment as complete action items and recommendations that result from incident investigations.
  • Provide input for scopes of work related to process unit turnarounds and shutdowns.
  • Coordinate with industry technical experts and contract personnel on rotating equipment reliability-related improvement efforts.
  • Mentor/educate engineers, plant operations, and maintenance personnel in best practices for machinery reliability.
  • Provide oversight over reliability-related programs such as the lubrication program, compressor analysis, and vibration program.
  • Provide oversight to machinery installation, troubleshooting, repair, and startup activities.
  • Follow-through on commitments made to others.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical discipline as required by assignment) is required.

Required Skills

Knowledge of industry standards and other applicable codes. Knowledge of SAP, or other computerized maintenance management systems. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and coordination skills with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong computer skills with MS Office applications.

Work Conditions

Office and Petroleum Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 10% travel required by land or air. Subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors. Required to work in a warehouse/plant environment and out of doors. Works near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
