Position Description:

The Accounting Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Accounting Manager in the overall leadership of the accounting team and control of general accounting functions for the credit union. As a leader, this position will ensure that team member functions are performed timely with the most efficient and accurate methods, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Prepare periodic reports, reviews, and reconcile data, with respect to monthly financial statement preparation and participate in the development of specialized financial data. This position ensures that all data, records, and reports maintained by the department are current and accurate, and reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. Additionally, this individual ensures adequate internal controls and due diligence procedures are in place and assists in the preparation of the credit union’s consolidated financial statements. As a forward-thinking leader, this position will be the subject matter expert (SME) while, coaching and developing the team to be successful in their roles and aligned with corporate initiatives.

What You'll Do in This Role:

  1. Assist the Accounting Manager in managing day-to-day responsibilities and providing effective leadership through objective goal setting, delegation, adequate staffing, and ongoing performance management. Conduct team meetings and training as needed to educate on policy, procedure, and any legal changes to ensure the achievement of operational success.
  2. Ensure daily reconciliations are completed on-time and reconciling issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  3. Develop, maintain, and support accurate analytical models for evaluating, benchmarking, and monitoring the profitability and efficiency of various lending assets, services, and lines of business.
  4. Assists in month-end closing, accounts payable, and other items. Performs accurate and timely accumulation, analysis and reporting of accounting and financial data as assigned by management, with the primary focus on portfolio and asset quality related functions. Perform variance analysis for monthly closing and preliminary financial statement preparation.
  5. Lead ad hoc financial analysis projects in support of key organizational metrics and objectives.
  6. Collaborate with departments and committees to coordinate strategies, monitor profitability, and prepare analysis and recommendations.
  7. Ensure the accounts payable function is operating efficiently and both vendor and team member payments are processed accurately and in compliance with CCF policy and procedures. Reviews and oversees annual tangible tax and 1099 reporting process.
  8. Manage initiation and monitoring of accounting procedures performed in departments throughout the credit union.
  9. Assists in the preparation and review of CUSO financial statements, reports, and general ledger reconcilements. Responsible for maintenance of the general ledger system. Ensures all entries are correct and accurate. Audits general ledger as necessary.

What You'll Bring To CCF:

  • Two to five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
  • A college degree.
  • A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Credit Union products, services, policies, and procedures pertinent to the job. Knowledge of activities of financial institutions and the required accounting treatment and reconciliation procedures of those activities. Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities. Proficiency in computer applications and spreadsheets; ability to learn new programs. Must have the ability to work in a professional manner. Must be able to work quickly and accurately.
