A law firm seeks a Junior Patent Litigation Associate to join its dynamic Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation team in Washington, D.C. This full-time, hybrid position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile patent litigation cases, managing complex discovery processes, preparing legal briefs, and representing clients in depositions and hearings. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of patent litigation experience, with strong writing and interpersonal skills, and a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated associate looking to develop in a fast-paced and collaborative legal environment.

Duties:

  • Manage discovery processes, including document review, production, and depositions.
  • Prepare legal briefs, motions, and other filings for patent litigation cases.
  • Assist in preparing for hearings, depositions, and trials.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop and execute litigation strategies.
  • Research and analyze patent law and related technical fields, including working with experts.
  • Attend and assist in client meetings and depositions as required.
  • Handle ITC and USPTO proceedings (if applicable).
  • Provide high-level legal support across all stages of patent litigation.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of patent litigation experience.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively.
  • Experience in managing discovery, preparing legal briefs, and supporting hearings and depositions.
  • Prior experience with ITC and/or USPTO matters is a plus.
  • A background or degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong academic credentials and a demonstrated ability to handle complex legal matters.
  • Must be admitted to the DC Bar or able to gain admission promptly.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the DC Bar or ability to become admitted in a timely manner.

Skills:

  • Advanced legal research and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of patent law and intellectual property litigation.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for effective client and team interaction.
  • Ability to handle complex technical issues in patent litigation.
  • Proficient in legal case management and document management tools.
