Job Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Media Strategies, the primary responsibility of the Director is to develop the digital content strategy across AIA's social media and digital publication, AIA Architect. This role is integral in shaping the voice and narrative of AIA, ensuring that the association's content resonates with members, partners, and industry professionals. The Digital Content Director will oversee content that drives engagement, fosters strong industry relationships, and promotes revenue growth.

Job Duties:

Content Strategy and Development:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy that supports the organization's goals and content pillars.
  • Create and manage an annual content calendar with storytelling themes that drive engagement and brand awareness.
  • Identify content opportunities and develop innovative ideas to enhance the member experience.

Team Management:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Senior Manager of Social Media and the Editor, AIA Architect.
  • Foster a collaborative and creative environment to ensure high-quality content production.

Network Building:

  • Build and maintain a network of external freelance writers and internal subject matter experts to contribute diverse and authoritative content.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and content contributors.

Content Creation and Curation:

  • Oversee the creation, editing, and publishing of various content formats, including social media posts, articles, blogs, videos, and podcasts.
  • Ensure all content is consistent with the organization's brand voice, style, and standards.
  • Monitor and analyze content performance metrics to refine and optimize content strategy.
  • Stay updated on digital marketing trends and best practices to continually enhance content strategies.

AI Integration:

  • Maximize AI tools and platforms for content creation and distribution.
  • Interpret data analytics to optimize content strategies and understand audience behavior.
  • Incorporate AI to tailor content to different audience segments for enhanced engagement.

SEO and Analytics:

  • Implement SEO best practices to increase the visibility and reach of digital content.
  • Use analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of content and inform strategy adjustments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the communications, brand, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive messaging and integrated campaigns.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify content opportunities and support organizational initiatives.

Relationship Building:

  • Take the initiative to build and maintain strong relationships across the organization.
  • Engage with members, stakeholders, and partners to gather insights and feedback to inform content strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital publishing, with proven leadership in a content management role.
  • Strong understanding of the architecture industry and its audience.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and the ability to translate ideas into actionable plans.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage and inspire diverse teams.
  • Experience with analytics tools to measure content performance and drive data-informed decisions.

This position will periodically be required to be on-site at the AIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C when AIA returns to the newly renovated office at the completion of the renovation in Spring 2025.
