Job Duties
This position is with the Department of Corrections' Corrections Construction Unit. Position reports at the Corrections Construction office located in Powhatan, Virginia.
The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) is seeking a Remediation Field Technician to actively participate in the productive, effective and cost-efficient delivery of programs and services which support and enhance field operations to achieve the goals, mission and vision of the Department.
Position provides planning, organization, coordination, and execution for the remediation and/or environmental compliance at all DOC facilities. Provides analysis to ensure that liabilities potentially incurred by the Department are minimized through appropriate assessment, cost-benefit, training, and/or risk management analysis and decision-making. Provides guidance, direction, training and assistance with the implementation of corrective actions, design, recommendations and/or preventative measures to address deficiencies noted. Work with offenders and staff through the remedial re-entry program, providing guidance and training to returning citizens.
This position is construction focused and requires the candidate to possess or obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to complete the job duties within 6 months of hire. The selected candidate must successfully complete 40-hours of OSHA HAZWOPER Training and 30-hour OSHA Construction Training within 6 months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Technical knowledge and experience with environmental science and environmental engineering, geology, and chemistry principles and practices. Experience interpreting facility assessment reports and develop reasonable and effective solutions. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Experience managing multiple technical projects and programs. Experience operating heavy construction equipment. Class B CDL or higher.
Additional Considerations
Training in the operation of heavy construction equipment. Current, Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Completion of 40-hours of OSHA HAZWOPER Training. Completion of 30-hour OSHA Construction Training.
