Title : Controls Engineer Location : Near Sugar Hill, GA Hire Type : Direct Hire Salary : $80k-110k/yr. based on experience Sterling Engineering is looking for a Controls Engineer for a leading provider of engineered electrical solutions for the municipal controls/drive industries. This is a great opportunity to work with a growing company that will invest in your career development with them Job Duties : Program PLCs, Smart Relays, HMIs, and VFDs Design control panels to meet UL508A / CSA 22.2 standards and NEC codes. Select components (sensors, motor controls, HMIs, circuit protection, controllers, enclosures) per specifications. Read project plans, create submittals, and identify exceptions. Develop and maintain As-Built drawings; document changes. Use EPLAN Electric P8 for 2D/3D electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOMs. Review and report costs to assist project managers with budgets. Address project changes and supplier issues to maintain timelines. Facilitate discussions on quality issues and schedule forecasts. Quote projects, including engineering time and material specifications. Obtain Siemens PLC and ABB VFD certifications. Manage project flow and resolve customer issues. Qualifications : Four-year degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred). Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial controls. Proficient in Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Mitsubishi PLCs. Skilled in HMI/PLC programming (ladder logic). Proficient in EPLAN P8 for electrical drawings. Knowledge of component selection, NEMA ratings, and specifications. Familiar with NEC and UL codes for electrical panels. VFD commissioning and communications (ABB, Mitsubishi preferred). Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, Modbus 485). Proficient in motor controls, circuit protection, and wiring standards.
