Description:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of sub-professional engineering tasks related to in the design, drafting, documenting, project management, and/or surveying of municipal infrastructure, including sewer, water, and storm water systems, curbs and gutters, streets, sidewalks, and buildings.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelors or master's degree program for Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other reasonably related degree. Must possess a valid Utah Operator's License. Must be capable of lifting in excess of 75 pounds without adverse consequences. Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly. Must be capable of accessing and traversing through construction sites.

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of journey level activities in the designing and drafting of public infrastructure including water, sewer, storm, irrigation, and storm water systems, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, roads, parking lots and buildings; performs simple surveying tasks, assists the City surveyor or other engineering staff in obtaining survey data; performs traffic counts and assists with setting up and operating the City's traffic counting systems; assisting in developing and disseminating information for the general public.

Assists in completing projects from initial scoping views to final design. Performs drafting through the application of computer aided drafting techniques; assists in the inspection of work performed by contractors and City construction crews to verify compliance with project plans and specifications; makes and checks mathematical calculations related to engineering design projects; monitors and maintains design and mapping supplies and equipment.

Consults with contractors, engineers, architects, and others in the process of drafting and designing assigned projects; assists in determining the location of underground utilities and infrastructure including water, sewer, stormwater, irrigation, power, gas, and communication lines throughout the city; participates in pre-construction conferences; researches and maintains engineering, surveying, correspondence, and legal records.

General knowledge of the theory and principles of drafting.

General knowledge of the theory and principles of engineering design.

General knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in public works construction and construction planning.

General knowledge of engineering maps and records.

General knowledge of construction plans and specifications, industry guidelines, regulations, and safety standards.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, engineers, architects, other City employees, supervisors, and officials, and the general public.

General knowledge of surveying principles, equipment, and instrumentation.
