About the Role
Have you ever wanted to bring your legal expertise to a high-growth, profitable and innovative SaaS company? This is an opportunity to be an integral part of Employee Navigator’s growth while helping to manage and scale our licensing and privacy legal functions. We are looking for an experienced and pragmatic problem solver with a passion for, and experience with, technology licensing, privacy and security. You will report directly to and work closely with the Executive Vice President and General Counsel, whose breadth of experience as an in-house counsel covers IPOs, equity and debt fund raising, and complex software negotiations. You must have superb verbal and written communication skills and be adept at navigating complex and nuanced data protection issues in a strategic business manner. This is an in-office role in our Bethesda, MD office, starting at 5 days per week in-office. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, and close license and other business agreements for our SaaS Platform, and privacy and data protection agreements with customers, including enterprise customers in highly regulated industries, such as financial services and healthcare, vendors, and partners.
- Advise and provide guidance on legal issues relating to commercial terms, compliance, privacy, security, and regulatory matters in conjunction with our security team.
- Develop and drive legal compliance policies and procedures designed to enhance regulatory and business standards and support the company’s business and strategic objectives.
- Develop and deliver training on contract templates, playbooks, and data protection and security laws.
- Support continuous improvements of templates, policies and processes to help streamline, simplify, and automate the contracting processes.
- Assist with monitoring and registration of intellectual property rights.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of substantive legal technology licensing, security and privacy experience, preferably in-house with a successful, high-growth enterprise SaaS company, with 3+ years software contracting experience.
- Deep knowledge of data protection laws, regulations, certifications, and emerging state data regulations (CCPA, NYCRR, etc.).
- Working knowledge of SaaS industry, including cybersecurity concepts and security certifications (specifically HITRUST).
- Exceptional interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and negotiating skills with security and privacy commitments.
- Exceptional organizational, project management, documentation, and prioritization skills.
- Detail-oriented and outstanding written and oral communications skills.
- The ability to work with a wide variety of people, at all levels in the organization, in a fast-paced collegial environment.
- Strong team player (no job is too small or too large) and willing to take on additional responsibilities.
- Service-oriented, professional, and strong integrity.
- JD degree from an accredited law school required.
