The anticipated hiring range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager – Advancement Communications works closely with Advancement’s Senior Officers to create and implement a comprehensive strategy for strategic communications targeting prospective donors and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) alumni community. Taking a “client-based” approach, the Senior Manager is responsible for producing general and highly customized engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship communications as required by the Advancement Office. The Senior Manager sets the overall communications calendar and project schedule, working with key business leads to ensure strategies and segmentation are responsive to the strategic direction of Advancement areas. In addition, the Senior Manager will hold primary responsibility for the Alumni Network online portal and online Advancement web pages. The Senior Manager is Advancement’s primary liaison to the college’s Office of Marketing and Communications, ensuring effective and efficient collaboration.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads all major organizational communications, most notably the CIA Annual Report and the Industry Leadership & Advancement Annual Brochure.
  • Serves as the primary Advancement liaison to the CIA’s Marketing & Communications Division.
  • Collaborates with advancement officers to develop communication plans and outreach.
  • Develops visual and digital components of communications into donor communications.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy for all communications to current and prospective donors as guided by the priorities of Advancement business units.
  • Develops new alumni segmentations with accompanying communications strategies (recent alumni, 10-years out, by campus, etc.).
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the CIA’s Annual Fund strategy and the CIA Faculty/Staff Campaign.
  • Develops proposals and reports as assigned.
  • Leads the development of Advancement newsletters including: The Society of Fellows Newsletter (3x annually); Mise en Place Alumni Newsletter (bi-monthly); and Advancement contributions to the CIA Parents Newsletter (3x annually).
  • Manages Advancement’s web pages, including Special Events collateral pages. Manages the Alumni Network website. Liaises with and supports the Advancement Officer – Alumni Relations on the Alumni Facebook page.
  • Develops and sets clear metrics for program success, measures progress, and makes strategy changes.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in fundraising, communications, journalism, writing, business, finance, or related field preferred, or an Associate Degree and significant work experience in lieu thereof.
Experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience within fundraising or communications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Not for profit, higher education or food service industry work experience.
  • Annual fund and/or Alumni relations experience.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Knowledge of Advancement/sales database systems.

  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with database systems and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required to business needs.
  • Regular work requires using a computer in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
