Overview

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a nonprofit membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future. We seek private contributions for the parks and work in collaboration with the National Park Service and Presidio Trust to improve park sites, enlist volunteers in restoration projects, provide education programs, and engage diverse audiences in the national parks at the Golden Gate.

Position Overview

The Associate Director, Corporate Relations and Grants will work to advance a range of grants, sponsorships and enterprise strategies, including preparation and submission of solicitations and reports to multiple foundations, corporations and government agencies. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Philanthropy and the Director of Philanthropic Programs. The Associate Director, Corporate Relations and Grants will also supervise a Grants Assistant, and work very closely with program and project staff, with frequent coordination among park partner agencies. Our grants team is responsible for securing $3 million annually from foundation and governmental sources. (Revenue goals may be adjusted each year.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Foundation and Government Grants (40%)
• Responsible for preparation and submittal of foundation and government grant solicitations, budgets, and reports.
• Take the lead in building and maintaining ongoing relationships with specific current foundation and government donors.
• Oversee maintaining accurate, timely records of all grants activity including updating data and creating reports from Raiser’s Edge database.
• Oversee maintaining schedule for grants submission deadlines and reporting deadlines. Ensure all deadlines are met.
Corporate Fundraising (35%)
• Evaluate current plans, develop expanded plans and strategies, and implement plans to expand recently launched corporate volunteer donation program. Lead program and be main contact for corporations potentially interested in participating.
• Serve as primary point person for internal staff – including Volunteer and Development staff – for corporate volunteer program to ensure coordinated efforts are in alignment.
• Identify prospects and secure corporate sponsorships for large events including park location openings (such as the Presidio Tunnel Tops which will likely require up to $1 million in corporate support), the annual Trails Forever Dinner (annually up to $200,000 in corporate support), and other fundraising events as are held in any given year. This will include developing specialized proposals, identifying and working successfully with Conservancy fundraising volunteers, including Trustees, who have corporate connections to reach corporate decision makers, and collaborating with Development staff colleagues on timing and possible and appropriate sponsor recognition.
• Responsible for preparation and submittal of corporate grant solicitations, budgets, and reports.
• Take the lead in building and maintaining ongoing relationship management with specific current corporate donors.
• Increase contributions to the One Tam Business Club by 100% over a three-year period, focusing on businesses in Marin. Work closely with One Tam Ambassadors (community volunteers) to identify, solicit, and steward business donors.
• Current annual unrestricted revenue goal is $200,000. Goal will increase annually in consultation with supervisor. Special project goals are in addition to this annual goal.
Organizational Management (15%)
• Lead process to research and identify potential new corporate, foundation, and government funders.
• Lead process to create, present, and follow through on internal documents needed for all proposals and reports including working productively with Finance department, Conservancy program and project staff, Communications team, and NPS and Presidio Trust partner staff.

  • Supervision (10%)
    • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and ensuring productive work results of the Grants Assistant. Provide on-going guidance for learning and professional growth around successful grant writing, reporting, and relationship building. Perform annual review in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years related development/fundraising experience with an environmental organization or other nonprofit desirable.
• Maturity, flexibility and the ability to perform complex projects independently.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
• Excellent communication, organizational, computational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to coordinate corporate and grants-related activities with National Park Service and Presidio Trust partners, as well as other Conservancy staff.
• Outstanding administrative experience and excellent references required.
• Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, database applications (Raiser’s Edge database experience desirable). Familiarity with additional publishing and/or mapping software desirable.
• Individual must be comfortable with online grant proposal and report development and submission.
• Ability to flexibly but appropriately respond to frequently demanding donor interests.
• Ability to manage the Grants Associate position and fundraising volunteers, and coordinate grant-related activities with National Park Service and Presidio Trust partners, as well as other Conservancy staff.
• Familiarity with use of research databases and online grant resources to identify and secure new funding sources.
• Familiarity with leading social media platforms desirable.
• Ability to assist with complex government grants submissions and administration.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Ability to address multiple tasks in quick succession.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The Conservancy offers a generous benefits package.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments

  • Work is performed in an office setting.
  • Work is primarily performed sitting, standing, and/or walking.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk 6-8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
