Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Facilities Operations, the Mason is responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform the duties particular to, and normally required masonry mechanic following recognized trade procedures and techniques for repairing, replacing, and maintaining masonry systems, roofs, floors and interior walls and finishes.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Repairs, replaces, and maintains external masonry systems (including walkways) and finishes, composed of concrete, brick, tile, slate, and asphalt. Performs brick pointing and caulking and applies sealants and water-proofing, utilizing generally recognized trade procedures.
  • Repairs, replaces, and maintains interior masonry systems and finishes, such as resilient floor tile, ceramic flooring, and wall tile, and plaster surfaces.
  • Repairs, replaces, and installs ceiling grid and tile systems.
  • Inspects and repairs roofs and related waterproofing systems, i.e., flashings, gutters, copings, pitch pockets, and skylights for the various types of roofs, such as composition, tile, slate, shingle, and single-ply systems.
  • Performs core drilling, concrete chopping, and related heavy labor work.
  • Repairs and installs sheetrock walls, including framing, taping, and polishing.
  • Performs carpentry repairs associated with structural components.
  • Casts in place cement work such as postholes, equipment pads, etc.
  • Paints finished surfaces.
  • Performs inventory and inspection duties and reports unsafe conditions in buildings and structural damages.
  • Maintains plant and work areas in safe and clean operating condition.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in the use of hand tools such as trowels, hawks, straight edges, plumb lines, wire cutters, etc.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, blue prints, and instruction materials such as building and job specifications.
  • Familiarity with the principles of related crafts and trades such as plumbing, carpentry, roofing, etc.
  • Knowledge of principals of masonry construction including brick, cement block, stone, clay tile, and ceramic tile.
  • Knowledge of materials utilized in the repair, preservation, and renovation of masonry and renovation of masonry and renovation of masonry systems, such as waterproofing, caulking, joint compounds, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to both Facilities staff and campus community.
  • Must be physically fit to carry tools, equipment, and material, work overhead on ladders, in cramped and crowded spaces and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years' journeyman-level experience in the masonry or plasterer trades, or three
  • Three (3) years' acceptable experience and graduation from a recognized trade school.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Higher Education preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to kneel, crawl, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.


$43.64/hr regular rate - $39.28/hr probationary rate

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
