POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Director, Department of Medicine (DOM) is accountable for the overall administration and operating results of the department of medicine, the success of the related clinical, financial, and operational components, and the financial and operating performance of the DOM ambulatory clinics at Boston Medical Center. This individual will partner with the Chair and the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs to achieve the Faculty Practice Plan and the hospital goals and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for departmental strategic and operational planning, financial performance, project management of key departmental and hospital initiatives, and leading administrative staff in the department.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Leadership:
- Creates a culture of performance and accountability in an organization. Translates overarching goals into specific objectives and holds people accountable for results.
- Builds and maintains key relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
- Demonstrates a track record of building and leading high-performance and highly collaborative teams.
- Participates meaningfully in hospital-wide initiatives that drive performance against key goals.
Financial:
- Manages all department finances (budget, forecasts, analysis, and interpretation).
- Oversees the preparation of all departmental and hospital revenue and expense budgets.
- Manages all hospital revenue activities.
- Monitors post-award grant processes and assists with meeting reporting requirements.
- Drives financial performance by analyzing financial, operational, and productivity data.
Strategic/Operational:
- Participates in planning, developing, and implementing new program initiatives for the division's activities.
- Drives initiatives critical to the success of the department and the hospital.
- Manages department’s ambulatory operations.
- Works collaboratively with a variety of hospital managers and staff.
- Assures compliance with BMC, Joint Commission, OSHA, DPH, and state and federal regulations.
Human Resources:
- Works closely with the Chair, Division Chiefs, and Section Heads to provide support relating to faculty.
- Utilizes hospital’s behavioral standards as the basis for decision-making.
OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other duties as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: A Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration or Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
EXPERIENCE: Requires at least 7-10 years of increasingly responsible healthcare leadership experience, with a proven track record in ambulatory clinical operations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Demonstrated successful leadership.
- Extensive experience managing staff and services.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting budgeting principles.
- Knowledge of clinic operations and related processes.
- Experience managing data and converting it into actionable information.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
