ROLE OVERVIEW
The Director, Product Development is a key role focused on driving success in our product lines. This position entails leading cross-functional teams, overseeing sampling processes, managing communication with suppliers, and ensuring the seamless execution of apparel manufacturing orders. Beyond product development, the Director also serves as the point of contact for all development and pre-production matters, playing a crucial role in sales activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and maintain a comprehensive calendar of events, both internal and external, ensuring effective coordination and timely execution for apparel product development.
- Validating design presentations for execution and cost considerations, with a focus on garment design and aesthetics.
- Handle and communicate all internal and external revisions related to color and fits, ensuring alignment with industry standards and fashion trends.
COMMUNICATION WITH SOURCING:
- Collaborate with sourcing on factory allocation, design execution, vendor matrix, ensuring optimal cost, quality and delivery efficiency and resource utilization for apparel manufacturing.
- Communicate first cost from sourcing to sales and estimated lead time for apparel products, considering material availability and production timelines.
SAMPLING PROCESS AND PRE-PRODUCTION APPROVALS:
- Oversee the initiation and facilitation of the sampling process, with a specialized focus on garment fit and fabric quality.
- Manage sample approvals for licensed apparel products and buyer samples.
- Ensure the timely production of TOP (TOP OF PRODUCTION) samples for apparel items and effective management of the process.
- Manage and maintain accurate tech packages throughout the product life cycle, which includes approvals of art|sizing of style.
MANAGEMENT OF REVISIONS:
- Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with internal|external teams in regard to timelines, changes|on time delivery etcetera.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Fifteen plus years experience as a sourcing or production manager exclusively in fashion industry.
- Knowledgeable about products, fabric, fit, washes, patterns, suppliers, and factories in the US and abroad.
- Expertise about critical path, costing, manufacturing, and calendar management.
- A strong negotiator with the ability to find pragmatic solutions in a win-win context.
- A very well-organized professional with excellent planning skills with high prioritization ability working on multiple projects at the same time.
- Able to work under pressure maintaining attention to detail and accurate work in a fast paced and changing environment.
- A strong written and verbal ability to establish trustworthy and durable relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated with critical attention to deadlines and reporting.
- Willingness to travel to visit domestic and overseas suppliers as required.
- Excellent computer skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- BFA or BA in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or related field.
- English, additional language(s) an advantage.
- Schedule of this position: Monday – Friday | Core business hours | Onsite.
