Your Impact:
Handshake is hiring a Director of People Operations reporting to the VP, People. In this role you will set the strategy and define the operating model for People Operations at Handshake. You will be directly responsible for managing our core People Operations and Systems, while also partnering closely with our People Programs and HRBP leaders on special projects and initiatives. You will be a significant member of the People Leadership team, working directly with the VP of People to set strategy and goals to support our Handshakers and the business.
The right person for this role will be focused on inspiring excellence both in terms of quality and in speed within their team, creating strong cross-functional partnerships across the business, and developing innovative and impactful solutions to support the organization. You will have opportunities to drive the long-term vision of the People function and our priorities, and work closely with executive leadership to ensure our mission and values are represented in the ways we do our work!
Your Role:
- Lead various aspects of People Operations (Analytics and Reporting, People Systems, HR Compliance, Immigration, and LOA), finding ways to scale our operating models and perform our work more effectively.
- Define the strategy for our People Operations functions over time, looking for ways to innovate and drive positive impact in line with our culture and values.
- Mentor, engage, and grow a team of managers and senior ICs across key functions.
- Champion and evangelize a culture and mentality of operational excellence.
- Partner as an internal consultant to People Programs, HRBPs, Finance, and Talent on cross-functional initiatives and projects.
Your Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant, progressive HR experience with 4+ years of strategic leadership experience.
- Strong HR fundamentals, understanding the functional side of the people space, such as compliance and employment law requirements.
- Comfort with setting strategy and building tactical plans for execution.
- Experience in building and managing small high-performing teams.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make recommendations by using data and judgment that is consistent with company culture and goals.
- Expert communicator, both verbally and in writing, across multiple varied audiences to influence and inspire.
- Workday experience.
Compensation Range:
- $200,000-$270,000 per year.
For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

- Pension Scheme: Handshake will provide you with a workplace pension, where you will make contributions based on 5% of your salary. Handshake will pay the equivalent of 3% towards your pension plan, subject to qualifying earnings limits.
